Any visited Mayan ruins?

Anyone ever visited any Mayan ruins?

Where are they?

Describe, please.

Reason I am asking is I am reading "The Caribbean" and it is mentioned the purpose of the columns in Mayan temples and such. Just wondering if any of you world travelers had seen them.

Re: Any visited Mayan ruins?

WTF??????????? is her career, Urban?

Funny how one chapter of a book got me all fired up about this. Really interested in their calendar system now. Guess I better add it to my list.

Pyramids are at the top of my list, Obi.

Urban, get the hell out of here with that picture stuff.

This book explained more....days, weeks, months, years. Way before their time. I won't do it justice on here, explaining it how I read it. It was just one of the coolest things I think I've ever found out about an ancient society. Need to look into it more.

Re: Any visited Mayan ruins?

JG - I went to some Mayan ruins - Tulum and Chitchen Itza. The location for Tulum was amazing - right on the ocean. But Chitchen Itza was amazing! Definitely worth a visit and very interesting to read up on. I am going to check tonight for some pictures and post them for you!

Re: Any visited Mayan ruins?

JG,
Years ago, I too was very fascinated by the ancient indian civilizations to include the Mayans, the Incas and the Aztecs.

The Mayans as well as the Aztecs are noted for their superior mastery of the heavens: astronomy and (for the mayans) mathematics.
Both the Mayans as well as the Aztecs have very interesting calendar systems that are considered amazingly accurate even today.

Did you know that the mayan calendar even "predicts" the end of the world?

Unfortunately, i dont know much more except to say that they lived in the Guatemalan region all the way to the Yucatan Penninsula.

my interest in them were largely based on my (then) search for the existence of UFO's and ETs.
At the time, I was fascinated by an archeologist/historian named Erik VonDaniel who wrote a book called "Chariot of the Gods".

Beyond that, I am clueless,.

Sorry.

Re: Any visited Mayan ruins?

Obi, those are beautiful. Where are they? I am always amazed at how they built that kind of stuff so long ago with pretty much their bare hands. Amazing!

When do they predict the end of the world? Or do I even want to know?

That's what the book said, Alex, about astrology and math. I can't wait to read more tonight. I hope he gives it justice by giving more then one chapter.

I am curious by nature. The book is so cool. You guys are amazing to me, as well!

BTW: Where is Windy when we have an intelligent conversation???????
