"Take" a couple thousand Africans to the Caribbean on a one-way trip. Punish them for speaking in their local dialect (probably were many at the time) and eventually they learn English taught to them by some Irish blokes. In the end you have the Jamaican language. Using mostly english words, with mostly an African system to a largly West African beat/rhythm.
As Danny Glover said recently, only in Jamaica could you find people greeting you with the word "respect".
