Yu can chat Patwah?
This is for the Non-Jamaicans as well as those Jamaicans who have left yaad a long time ago and has somehow "lost" the REAL PATWAH chat!
Non-Jamaicans -
1. Do you think that you have enough understanding of the language that you could hold a conversation with a jamaican IN PATOIS?
2. Would you feel embarrassed intryingto speak it?
3. Has being on ETJ helped you to gain better understanding of the Patwah?
Jamaicans abroad- Since you have been away for so long...
1. Do you think that you HONESTLY can still speak the "Raw-chaw" patwah that is spoken back home?
2. If not, how long do you think it would take for you to get it back?

1. I can not hold a conversation verbally as of yet. I have tried and I havent gotten past the laughing at myself phase. I even had a great teacher try with me last summer while visiting JA....even had an entire day dedicated to only speaking Patwa...but I think it was his way of keeping me quiet!!! (jk..I'm not that bad ) . I do believe I could if I was around someone that spoke it all the time, but talking to myself doesnt seem to work well.
2. I don't feel embarassed, but rather silly. It juss doesnt seem right yet coming from me...but maybe someday it will! I do sing along with many of the jamaican artists in mi car!! I just need a good teacher that lived near by and that is very hard to find in Utah!
3. ETJ has helped a little, I have actually gained my understanding more from friends. I actually have spent the past year trying to learn it and write it.... I am a work in progress! Even though I can't write it like a natural .. I do understand it and that is because if I don't...I seek too!! I will also try and throw in Patwa here and there when on the forum cause of the past year of trying to learn...I have gotten use to using words such as: di, mi, cyaan, cyan, fi, zeen, wah, etc..... and will use them without thinking about it.

Thats good.
i can see that you are a devout student of Patwah.
However on the Utah thing...You mean that there is no Jamaican Mormon in your neck of the woods?

Re: Yu can chat Patwah?
Even if i'm not a chue bawn patwa-speaking person, I and I have no problem wit Patwa. Mi kyah chat, write and ovastand it widout tuh much difficulties. Of course mi kyah do some mistakes but generally speaking, it's okay, the proof beeing that when mi meet di yardi dem and mi taak to dem inna patwa, nuff a dem think seh mi com fram Jumieka tuh, and when mi tell dem seh a nuh di case, dem nuh believe mi.
Really and chuelly, mi naah tell no lie, fram time mi did neva kno bout nuh english eitha but i have learned. Now mi kyah jump inna both propa english and "propa patwa".
De ungle one thing wey mi nuh hav yet, a di chue jumiekan accent leike di Sean D'Paul one. Yah man, a so mi do mi thing dem
