Dealing with Lust

My hardest thing to deal with as a christian woman is Lust... and I do not mean always in a sexual sense...

How do you as christians deal with Lust? On a day to day basis... what do you do when the devil throws temptation at your feet... like a buffet of candy in front of a child...

How do you work yourself through it and keep moving forward on the divine path God has chosen for you?

My friend Renee would say when something comes your way that makes you struggle, you have to decide if you want to be strong or weak. Do good or bad. Life is about the choices that you make. So I guess that would be a good way to look at the chrisitan thing too.

send me a pm and I will send you her email address. I'm sure she'd spend the whole day talking about the christian thing.

Re: Dealing with Lust

I'm Catholic...and by church standards...a big-time SINNER!
Lust is a difficult thing, it's in our nature to be tempted...both physically and mentally!
I was living with the father of my child ("in sin" as my dad would point out daily), but when we broke up, I went to confession for living in sin, having a child out of wedlock, and a LONG list of other things. My dad said I was cleansed and could start taking holy communion again. But I've had many boyfriends after and of course, had "relations" with most of them, so I started back at where I was before.
I've never met anyone who I deemed worthy of "marriage" , and my dad said that would be the only way I would NOT BE living in sin with a man...it's just so difficult. I do consider myself a good Catholic girl (minus the sex), but I attend church weekly, never killed anyone, and am kind to my neighbor I know that God is good, and hopefully he won't turn me away from the Gates of Heaven on account of my lustfull nature. LOL.

Re: Dealing with Lust

My 2 cents are that maybe we have to admit that sometimes we will lust. Accept the fact.
The next thing is not to act on it.
The third thing is to try and understand why we are feeling this way, do we feel a void?, is it a sudeen change in lifestyle, etc. We may find that the feeling of lust is to be expected.
The challlenge is to change the way we think about people, i.e. the opposite sex. See the beauty in humans and not mainly as sexual objects.

I think we are more forgiving and less hard on ourselves when we admit that we might be going through a vulnerable phase. It happens to everybody.

Oh, and pray about it.

Try and imagine everybody naked and how beautiful people are as beings, not as sexual objects. Imagine you are back in "caveman/woman" days.

You have 5 senses.

Until you learn to control them, you'll not get more.

Re: Dealing with Lust

There are no majic remedies........ I just live my life, I'm human with all the emotions, good and bad habbits that entails, I have no specific approaches for life, I just live doing the best I can according to my principles, beliefs, gut instincts what ever. Some times I slip, slide or fall flat on my face. I dont beat myself up about I get up and I carry on.

Re: Dealing with Lust

good point 1st. when you fall down, you can always get up and try again. don't beat yourself up cuz the Word says that Jesus didn't come to condemn us.

windy, find verses that address lust in your Bible's concordance and study them. make positive confessions. pray. flee temptation into God's arms.

Re: Dealing with Lust

I really just wanted to see how people deal with their lust...

I already pray on it... and usually it goes away... if it doesn't I pray harder...

Re: Dealing with Lust

When we pursue shallow pleasures, we are left empty and without substance...... Imagine if in our pursuit of physical pleasure, we overlook that which will truly fill us?
Christianity foolishly examines obedience within the concept of sin and judgement by God; intellect finds no use for these foolish concepts, intellect sees the self destruction or fulfillment within the action and/or lack of action. As we grow, learn and evolve towards what we are meant to become, we seek fulfillment of self, no longer having use for unsustainable shallow pleasures.

I always have to laugh that we have been given these perfectly beautiful and intricate minds, yet some people believe God needed to supply it with an instruction book..... Assembly required?

Control? Let them run rampant and you can still witness the self destruction that prompts questions concerning depth in contemplative reasoning towards that which is beneficial to self. How do you control something that is brilliantly perfect in the realization of self? If it is something that requires control, you have not learned what it was intended to teach; you have no need to control something that is no longer of consequence.

Part of the brilliance of our existence is it doesn't matter where one chooses to look, just how far they wish to go.... We don't have to confine ourselves to instruction such as one must learn to control, that is your choice of confinement!

I don't require looking beyond the five senses to find balance and truth, this is the illusion you have chosen for yourself.

The arrogance in belief is what we all struggle against where one person tells another how they should see life...... I only imagine how beautiful life would be if we asked fresh minds what they see rather than filling them with what we condition them to see...... I always find it interesting that we are still unable to see what true freedom is.
