Should Jamaica become a part of the US like Puerto Rico?

Some time ago there appeared to be serious consideration being given to making Jamaica a part of the US like Puerto Rico. Would this be a good move or a bad move? Why or why not?

Lemme see if I can remember the rationale...

I think because of Jamaica's location, it may have been strategic for the US if it were under their control (proximity to Cuba, also the fact that Jamaica acts as a trans-shipment point between Latin America/South America and the rest of the Caribbean and Florida). There may have been perceived advantages in terms of setting up factories (cheaper labour costs, tax breaks) etc. Somebody else can correct me if I've erred.

For Jamaica, the main things would be that the economy would get a boost, use of the US currency would be possible, Jamaicans may be able to benefit from the ability to travel more freely to the US, and also get other benefits afforded to US citizens (or whatever benefits Puerto Ricans get).

At the time it was being talked about, there were some who were for it, but most were against it.

Re: Should Jamaica become a part of the US like Puerto Rico?

No nation should give up their sovereignty to become part of another nation unless they used to be part of it originally. National sovereignty is far more valuable than federalists want you to realize. They want to create a world that us united as a single government. That's an antichrist goal. Don't ever fall for it.

"The first rule to remember when dealing with the Devil is: DON'T!"

Stated by Phillip W. Reed Jr.
Wrongly convicted of serial bank robbery in 2001 and now one of 2.5 Million slaves on Uncle Scam's plantation (aka: American prisons).

http://www.bop.gov

Like I always say:

"If democracy is such good thing, then why did God decide that Heaven should be a Kingdom!"

That is why I am fighting to restore the throne of the Solomonic Dynasty in the ancient Empire of Axum! There will be no elections in Heaven. God never endorsed or approved ANY demoncratic government! God chose kings to rule and He commanded them to govern according to God's Word or else suffer His mighty wrath!

Think about THAT one!

Puerto Rico can fly as they like in and out of the US, Jamaicans can't without a visa/citizenship. They can be citizens by just being born in P.R, Jamaicans have to be naturalized (and that cost too). It is also wayyyy cheaper to fly from US to PR and viceversa. More expensive to fly where Jamaica is concerned. I think it is not a bad idea. However, I would definately prefer being under the British again.

That was some of my thoughts. Also the economy will definately benefit, and whether or not we wanna accept it, Jamaica a become like America likkle by likkle, there ain't no stopping that, everything America do we end up do out deh to. PR has still hold their own identity despite the fact that they are under the US, and I feel it would be the same for Jamaica. Not only is there travelling to the US without a visa, but also Europe and most countries in the world!

YES and more yes! I have said it too and is a firm believer. Look at it this way, Jamaica has gained its independence since August 1962 right, how indepedent are we really? We are still nuff money in debt, the cost of living is high, crime rate is ridiculous, the stock market is marginal, majority are poverty stricken and to make ends meet is a hard struggle. Then how independent are we? We depend on the foriegn exchange to increase our economy. Yes I understand what is done is done, however, I think if the government see another way in which things can be done, then why not do it for the betterment of the country.

Again, this is my 2cent in the matter.

Re: Should Jamaica become a part of the US like Puerto Rico?

Jamaica part of the US. Hell no. Kiss culture bye bye..look at the influence the USA has had on Jamaica already. People dont want to eat traditional food anymore but want to go kentucky and Burger King..

The over and abiding love for guns in our culture..

the list is endless..

Then some wish that Jamaica was ruled by Britain again. So you telling me that after 400 years of subjagation some would wish to be ruled by our former enslavers. Dont we have faith that Jamaicans can run our own country..or do we need the guiding hand of the white man to keep us civilised? I really dont understand the thinking behind this..

Jamica has never been independent like almost all former colonial nations. How could we be an independent country from 1962 and still running to white men in Britain for the final say on our legal matters..what/ we cant administer justice in our own country...how could we be independent when we import basic foodstuffs such as rice which could be easily grown in the country..

There are a 1000 other reasons why the independence we were told we have is nothing but a sham. We are being sold out by small minded petty men in power. Men of no vision. men who would rather play power struggles with the lives of their people more than look after the people basic needs..i.e education..public security..industry..

No I say we stand a much better future finding strength with our Carribean neighbours.. who all share a common history and Carribean culture.. than casting our lot in with the devil and our hiostorical oprressors. have the US been our friends when we want to export our bananas for a fair price..were they opur friends when we wanted to pursue a different agenda political agenda in the 1970s..

Now I got that off my chest I feel much better.

>>>Son of Yard takes deep breath/ shakes head.. and logs off<<<

Peace

I will add my 2cents, reading this thread i was a little hmmmm, i guess you can say upset. From reading the thread, it seems as if jamaicans lack confidence that they can run their own country. I have a hard time understanding {British rule} and why would mentally Jamaicans run to be under it. , it's like admitting that black people don't know what they are doing when they are in the position. As far as being a part of the US. i think the Americans would love it, and what would happen is more Jamaicans coming into the states and more white people going to Jamaica, not for no culture but to tear it down and build to a fantasy island for vacations. That's what i believe. Jamaica would see the end before their very eyes.

I am an American born citizen and I would love to see Jamaica become apart of the U.S. in the near future.

As a matter of fact I will welcome Jamaica with open arms.

Starting with the people of Jamaica: The Jamaican people are smart, intelligent and very talented and and hard workers. They can offer so much to the U.S. in the field of Arts, Music, Science, Medical, Culinary and Industrial fields just to name a few.

I think the U.S. can also help uplift this country by raising the wages of all workers in Jamaica who are so deserving of much more then what they are getting now. And right now I am about sick to my stomach with our U.S. hotel chains and food chains that are making millions off of tourisum and underpaying the Jamaican people for the many plus hours that takes them being away from their children at home because they are working longs hours on these jobs. This will bring the poverity level down where needed.

I could go on and on but I think you understand where I am coming from...and I feel not only do the U.S. have something to offer the country of Jamaica but the Jamaica have alot to offer the U.S. as I have stated above.

Jamaica definitley has my vote to unite with us in the name of ONE LOVE...."Peace and Blessings Star"
