Most guns that are used in crimes in Jamaica originate from the US.

Why doesn't the US do more to stop their illegal guns from leaving the US?

Yeah. That's probably a part of it. The US makes a big deal about keeping things/people from entering into the US, but they don't seem to be as concerned about keep their undesirables from escaping from their borders.

We can't even keep the illegal guns off our own streets let alone keep them in the country

Hello Our President is a card carrying gun slinging member of the NRA....He doesnt beleive guns should be illegal!

How much effort would it take keep people from exporting illegal guns from the US? Is the US even trying to keep their guns from reaching places like Jamaica?

Be that as it may, doesn't the US have a responsibility to prevent those things from being exported illegally? Even though guns may be legal, there are regulations governing their handling. Strong export control should be part of that and should be enforced strongly.

I am glad he feels that way, imagine if he swore to defend the Constitution but really felt that the some of the amendments were not needed?

The US spends a sick amount of money preventing stuff from entering the country, why would they care what leaves? Why would any country care?

Bounty i am in total agreement we do have a resposibilty to keep those guns from being exported, but same way we keep them from coming in here why doesn't jamaica do a better job keeping them from coming into their borders...sheesh i can't even bring toys for children at christmas time with out getting caught how do folks get guns in...
I am simply saying if the President is a gunslinger like we have...its not exactly his top priority to worry about guns that won't be harming us citizens...and This is the self centered USA you refer to here...I didnt say i agreed I just say thats why it isnt done..

The fundamental principle of the United States Security Charter is to protect iUS soverignity first an foremost and its overseas interest second.
Whether its a pocket knife or a patriot missle the US has no interest in stopping in from leaving the country AS LONG AS IT does not appear to pose an imminent or future threat to the US.
Those "few" guns entering Jamaica are chicken feed compared to the tens of thousands that were exported to the Nicaraguan rebels and the El Salvador military during the Regan era.
If they heard that they were being stock-piled in Jamaica for later use by El khaeda against US interest down there,then that would be a totally different story.
