First annual - Jamaica Talk

I'm proud to say that my city has finally come on board with me (and our tiny Jamaican community) and is having its first annual Reggae Festival this August. I know none of you are from here and won't be attending but I thought it was worth mentioning cause we dont' have too much Caribbean culture here. Of course I'm on the volunteer list for the festival!!

It sounds like a lot of fun, take pictures, share them with us.
Seriously, you should be grand marshal, I'm sure you had great imput.

Grand Marshall....nice one Paz! I feel like I should become the Jamaican ambassador to Calgary! We soooooooooo need more of the culture here before this city loses me to Jamaica! lol

how exciting jc! i'm sure it will be tons of fun. are there any reggae bands/clubs in your area? how big would you say the jamaican pop. is in calgary? do you know many? ( i know us jamaica enthusiasts seem to find them out quickly once our passion is sparked.. i know i have)

Our Jamaican community is pretty small here and I know most of them from way back in the day. Its pretty much stayed the same. However I've found a few things I didn't know existed like calgarydancehall.com. But even its real small. We only have one night a week at ONE club in the city that plays dancehall and that's a Wednesday....chances are slim I'd ever go cause its a work night. I'm not a big fan of reggae music, mostly dancehall. But I'll do this festival because its Jamaican. Plus we have Carifest coming up in June. But that's all we have. boohoo.

Guess I'll just have to go back to Negril.

I don't know if there's a big Jamaican community in Germany, but Citizens from all over Afrika live in Germany.
Also there's a big Reggae community in Germany. It proves every year in the biggest Reggae-Festival in Europe the "Summer Jam" or artits like Gentleman, Seeed or Nosliw.

June 4 also marked the beginning of Carifest 2004 here in Calgary. I went down to watch the parade on Saturday and it was just beautiful once again. Looked like a scene cut straight outta Jamaica and brought me back to JA. The music was fantastic, the costumes were amazing and it was allllllll bout di dance for me. The nice things bout Carifest is it includes all the Caribbean locations....saw and heard from Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti, Jamaica, etc. The festival continues on through June 12.

So this "first annual reggae festival" we're holding here in August just came out with the line up of music. I'm excited to say that Wayne Wonder and Lexxus have just jumped on the band wagon too! I shall be SURE to take pics and post them.

K guys nobody's posting here except me but I wanted to say the Reggae festival is tomorrow and I'm GONNA GET MY ASS INNA PICTURE WITH WAYNE WONDER!!! You all know me and my ability to wiggle my way into pictures with famous people. So maybe after I post the picture here people will look at this thread!

The way I see it, I'm workin at the festival so I'll have the secret access I'll need to place myself strategically with my ass in his hands! LOLOLOLOL
