Smile All Praise for Ms. Stewart

Jamaican artist, Cheery Stewart is set to showcase her latest work on May 23 at the Empire State Building Development Corporation in Brooklyn, New York.

Speaking with JIS News, Ms. Stewart said that she was very excited about her latest show. "Painting makes me happy and I have always enjoyed sharing my work with others, especially my Jamaican people," she said.

Born in Manchester, Jamaica, Cheery Stewart began painting in 1983 and became a member of the noted Trafalgar Artist Coop in Kingston. She attended the Edna Manley School of Visual Art and was mentored by renowned art critic Ansel Walters and later by Jamaican artist Webster Campbell.

After emigrating to the United States in 1990, Ms Stewart put her work on hold to pursue family life. Two years later, after receiving encouragement from then Consul General Kay Baxter-Collins, she had her first solo show at the Jamaican Consulate in New York.
Her work has been shown in various exhibitions around the world including the United States, Canada, Holland and London.

This latest exhibition was arranged with help from the Hon. Una Clarke, former Brooklyn Councilwoman, and the Community Relations Office at the Consulate-General of Jamaica.
