Greetings and salutations from Minnesota

Apparently protocol demands that I make an introduction of sorts, so here goes nothing. Hi! I'm writing from Minnesota, which, as you know, is just like Jamaica in almost every respect. Well, except for the ice and snow, of course. Anyway, my wife and I were in Negril two years ago and had a spectacular vacation. That probably would have been the end of the story, but fate has reared its head and now I have a job opportunity in Kingston. A 2 or 3 year commitment. It would be the biggest no brainer in the history of the planet, but we're worried about, well, living in Kingston, and we're especially concerned about our children (ages 6 and 4). A week with my wife at Couples in Negril is not exactly the same as 2 years living in Kingston with the family. Sounds like a great adventure, but... perhaps too adventurous?? So many questions. Kingston does come with a bit of a reputation, afterall. Anyway, that's me and I just wanted to say hello, and in typical Midwestern fashion I say "good luck" to all of you.

Re: Greetings and salutations from Minnesota

Thanks...and a very pleasant welcome to ETJ to you. Feel free to ask and post around forums.

From what I know of Kingston, it depends where you and your family planning to live. Do you know where? Just as anything in life that is unfamiliar to us, we approach it with fear and some doubts. But once you get the hang of the place, you'll do fine. I also understand that vacationing in an area is much different from living there, but give it a chance.

The internet is a rich source of information, so I suggest you do a google search on the area just to have a peace of mind. And if that was not enough for you, feel free to ask here.

I wish you all the best for you and your family in this new adventure.

Hey Wooster.....welcome to ETJ.

One of my friends from up here has worked in and outta Kingston over the last couple years. She's seen the worst of the worst and probably close to the best. Its not for everyone but I think it'd be a great opportunity for you and your family to live in a different culture. Good luck with your decision.
