Hi everyone

Hellllo boys and girls (gyals?) my name's Alon and I'm from Israel.
I never been to Jamaica but I am planning on doing so as soon as I can (it'll take a while ). Seems to me like Jamaicans are laid back guys, the girls are beautiful, the Ganja's good and coming from a tense country as Israel it means a lot to me

For now I want to understand the mentality and language... probably more difficult for me to comprehend as English isn't my native tongue so I'm unfamiliar with some of the slang... Do you have any recommendations ... where and how do I start? Seems like my current method of listening to some of Kartel's songs on youtube doesn't get me anywhere

I have a lot more questions but this post is long as it is. Feel free to ask me questions as well !

Re: Hi everyone

lol.. my suggestion is not to listen to kartels songs if your aim is to associate jamaica with anything the opposite of tense..

the best way to understand patois is just to hear it a lot... it'll eventually come to you as english did/does

welcome

Re: Hi everyone

thank you for the warm welcome
although English didn't just "come to me" from hearing it , lol, I learnt it for more than a few years and practiced it and it's still far from being perfect.
no one has references (online, books, something) where I can improve my patois?

Re: Hi everyone

Nevermind the patois ... just go and visit. People from all over the world go and enjoy themselves!! I have been numerous times and dont speak patois, although i understand it. If i didnt understand something i just ask the person to repeat what they said LOL.
