Hi People!!
Just stumbled across this forum and thought i would join as i have a number of questions regarding life in JA. I have only ever been on holiday and to see my partner so i guess im still a tourist even though i hate the the more 'touristy' side to JA.
Ive stayed in St Anns and Kingston, so there is still plenty more of the island to see.
Im contemplating moving my son there for his education, and in an ideal world i would love to be there also but i dont want to give up my rented property here and i dont know if i would be able to find a job that would cover my rent and other expenses here as well as living costs out there. I would be staying with my partner's family so accommodation isnt a problem.
Anyway ... Im currently in London so anyone in London looking to move it would be good to talk to. Also honest accounts about living in JA, esp Kingston would be good!
Stay blessed

Re: Hi People!!
If you were living anywhere else in the world except England, and wished to send your son to school in Jamaica, I would probably have encouraged you to do so; but not the UK.
I grew up in Jamaica but (after High school) did some schooling in the UK. My advice....unless you have no other choice, let him stay there and complete his education; then if so desired go to Jamaica.
Outside of the UK, I think Jamaica has one of the best educational system in the western Hemisphere. Unfortunately, because of limited financial resources the system is overburdened and under-equipped.
PS:Welcome to ETJ.

Re: Hi People!!
Thank You Guys!
With regards to the education, theres abit more to it than just getting an education and also my situation raising my son over here. I honestly feel my son need's his father in his life physically rather than over the phone, but due to the current system my partner wont be here any time soon!! Its easier for me to come and go and maintain my life here.
With the education aspect itself, im impressed with the teaching up to secondary, once he has completed compulsory education i would look at his options for higher education here. The only thing that really impresses me here about the education is the HE and the opportunities for so many to study at degree level. I cant afford private education here, whereas there are prep schools in Kingston for the equivalent of £300 per term. As i said, i havent made a firm decision and i will do my research when im there in Dec/Jan.
Does anyone know if there is any info regarding education online?

I presume you meant info regarding Jamaican education.
Try this: Jamaica Information Service
I dont know how updated or outdated the information there is, but at least, it should point you in the right direction.
Best fo Luck.
