Renewal from ETJ - Jamaica Talk

After just being on this site for a few days, I must say MOST of you ETJ members have really helped me renew the love I thought I lost for my island home Jamaica. After months of just sucking in the bad news from the newspapers & TV I practically lost hope in being happy in my land. Would U all believe that it was one ETJ member that unknowingly made me jump in my car today & just drive to lush & picturesque Portland? I was refreshed.
I don't think I can do without ETJ from this day onwards.

Okay the more and more I read these posts the more I want to go. Just pack up and visit for a week. I have never been there before so, I don't know what spots are the best.
Where I should stay away from, not see alone, etc.

I will be staying in Trelawny so any local cool places to see?

Hmmmm..... I'm the wrong person I think to answer this. I tend to explore a ton on my own... and at times have ended up where I shouldn't.

It would probably be best not to travel alone in parts of Spanish Town & Kingston. I am sure there are other places to be aware of.... but I'm no help.

Gosh...this just brought back memories of finding myself in the midst of Caprini Green (Chicago area) back in the 80's when I was 16. At the time it was known as one of the most dangerous areas in the nation. But hey.... I didn't realize it until afterwards and I survived!

okay... I'm off to memory lane... gnite!

Many of us dont tour our own country (same for many other nationals & nationas), so its good to enjoy what we have. The best part sometimes is stopping on the road and talking to some complete stranger/vender as if you had know each other for decades. I sometimes stop at a location to buy jackfruit and I have to call the guy out of his bathroom, etc. I set the price, he hardly cares.

I stayed at Star Fish resort in Trelawny...it was fun..town isn't walking distance, but u can take a cab...if u've never been and u are going by yourself, just be prepared for the hustlers, u know...

My daughter stayed there last year and hated it, many problems especially health and safety, one call from me to the manager giving a preview of the review she would be writting and she was moved to Breazes Super Club in Runaway Bay at no extra cost.

Hi LuvLife, welcome to ETJ. I am also distressed about our social problems. I would love to see us collectively develop the will to solve them. This country has so much potential for progress. Good idea to drive to Portland, in my view the most beautiful parish in Jamaica.

ETJ gave me a well-deserved shot in the arm, my friend. Whenever a website (in this case, PEOPLE on a website) can make me jump in my car to go take in a beautiful place like Portland... I think I'll wanna 'hold on' to ETJ a little tighter.

Thanx for the welcome. In your opinion if a first time visitor had only one choice to make whether to visit Portland or St. Ann where would you recommend? Also, is it me or does Portland has less to offer in terms of activities for visitors? I loo forward to your response.
