Does anyone else remember the scene in 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back' when Whoopi Goldberg pauses to take in the physical beauty of the island then quietly says "God is here"?
Well, sitting on a log at Long Bay Beach in Portland eating some Jerk Pork & watching each wave come in, I had that "Whoopi experience". What makes this so cool to me is that I'm a born & bred Jamaican & I STILL find MY island breathtaking.

That's cool.
I often have that feeling where I live, even though I hate the winter cold.
Yes I do too hate the winter cold and it is looking like if D gets his visa it will likely be the fall so he may be experiencing a Canadian winter and maybe Christmas!

the poor guy. First thing he will experience is the damn cold. (jokin`) Some years ago i was for the first time experiencing people who never saw snow in their live before and how they reacted on fresh fallen snow on an early morning in December. Carefully and a little bit shy trying to touch it with the fingertips the eyes full of scepticism. (Maybe it bites and nobody told me before...)

lol That will surely be an experience for him.
I like winter best when we have a couple feet of snow on the ground so we can go out and play in it. But when it's 10 degrees f and there's NO snow on the ground, that's a major bummer imo......

on the one hand it was very touching to watch it and on the other i could have just peed in my pants from laughing. (specially cause of the facial expressions)

Everytime i look at my pics, i think, "They wake up to this and don't even appreciate it!" lol

If you live in Kingston and get caught up in the day to day hustle, it's easy to forget about the beauty of the island we live on. That's why every now and then, I get in the car and just drive. Now, sometimes I get that "Whoopi experience" looking out my windows.

I saw "snow" for the first time on my last trip to Toronto. It was hovering between 8 and 12 degrees C and I looked out the window and saw something looking like confetti falling. They told me it was a snow flurry. I got all excited. Everybody laughed at me. They said it wasn't "real snow"

It's human nature to take for granted what you have. We appreciate Jamaica as much as you appreciate the USA.

I do the same exact thing sometimes, get in my car and drive out to the mountains or a lake and pretend I'm a tourist. Makes me remember why I live here.

lol re: the difference between flurries and "real snow". Flurries are pretty, but I love watching a good hard snowfall IF I'm safe at home or elsewhere. It's really peaceful to watch it. Not so much if I'm out driving around in it..........
