Re: just back from jamaica
There you go Ash...you have to go through it, to learn from it. I soooo hope we are in Jamaica at the same time later this year. I don't even want to start my ticker, because it's too depressing to think about how far away it is. LOL.
Back to the topic: I don't want anyone to get me wrong, I feel more power to any person that finds love on vacation, but for me PERSONALLY...it takes more than a week to feel anything along the lines of true heart-felt love. Lust, sure why not...but not Love!

You would be surprised what one will do and where they will go looking for love. Aint no shame in looking for love. Just as long as you don't look through rose-colored glasses.

Re: just back from jamaica
I have known of individuals who have looked for love by joining the military, joining a dance class, going to the library, joining a particular community outreach program, going to church, yadah yadah.
True love can be found anywhwere. Just not everywhere, everytime.

I never went to church with the sole intention of looking for love. But one time I did go to a Catholic Singles meeting because I really wanted to find a dude who shared my same religious beliefs...unfortunately I found that outside of religion, I had NOTHING in common with anyone there.

I didn't go on vacation to find love, nor was I looking for love....I went to Jamaica with my family for a relaxing break, to spend time with them and enjoy myself relaxing on a beach and experiencing a different culture. I've travelled a lot and never have I gone anywhere looking for love, men or sex.....I can get all of that in my home city.
I met someone, had some good conversations and some good experiences (not talking sex, just some good times) and perhaps made a connection (not talking love). I wasn't actively looking for anything from anyone.

Re: just back from jamaica
so....one guy that you know was a jerk and used women....all the others that you know are wonderful....but there are plenty of stories similar to the negative one...somehow that seems to me like you are saying that about 1/2 the Jamaican men aren't honest or trustworthy and 1/2 are wonderful...kinda like men (and women) everywhere. ...so really, the story about the jerk doesn't mean any more than the fact that you know many wonderful Jamaican men. It all balances out and each man should be judged on his own merit not on what other Jamaican men have done.

My only advice is to give it time......lots and lots of time. if the dude is using you, it'll surface on its own. It may not happen right away but if he plans on using, it'll be obvious.
Where did you visit in Jamaica??
|
thanks!
I got back on the 28th of Feb, we stayed near Montego Bay, but I visited Ocho Rios and Negril as well.
It's absolutely beautiful there, much nicer than anywhere else I've been! Can't wait to go back, although it'll probably take me more than a year before I can get enough money and time off to go again.
ah well, at least I have something to work towards...always good to have goals!

Exactly.
Not that this would make a difference, but out of the 1.753 Jamaican men I know.... all besides the other I mention are NOT from a tourist area NOR worked in a tourist area....but that may not make a difference.... i dunno.
But as Alex so eloquently stated....
Keep your mind open, you heart shielded and your purse and knees closed.

Well in that case, I guess only US Jamaican men are as "family-oriented.
Yeah, I know thats garbage but it felt good to say it anyway.

Re: just back from jamaica
I always think of it this way. If we were as poor as many in Jamaica..what would we do to ensure our future?? I always get angry thinking of the tourist women who have been played, but wonder..although I am outraged at the idea...if I was struggling to find a future in a country where it was that hard to get ahead...would I be any different?? I'd like to think I would be, but I've never walked a mile in their shoes.
I think so much Americanism is sweeping acrossed Jamaica, especially for younger Jamaicans, it's a blatanant reminder of the things they don't have. It is possible to have a happy and fullfilling life in Jamaica...but I think it would be hard to live a poor life and be taunted by tourists throwing money around every time you walk through town ( for those in the tourist areas).
So I think alot of the men, even some of the ones guilty of playing tourists, are good people. You just have to watch the connection you have with them and make sure it's really you they want. And all us ladies have intuition. We know when someone loves us for us, and good relationship or not, if that is missing, then you have your answer!

Re: just back from jamaica
I totally agree with you Ash. I mean, deep down...women have their intuition about a dude, some either go with their gut or with their heart?!?
TSAVO...didn't mean to derail your thread. But welcome and I am glad you had a wonderful Jamaican vacation and met a person you had a connection with

Ash, I have thought this myself many times. I think these guys wish for true love just as much as anyone. Its just the circumstances that make them do what they do. I saw the most honest Jamaican man I've ever known make a play for an American girl-even though we both knew that she wasn't good enough for him. It was so sad to me (that he would compromise HIS standards), but in the end its not my business.
