Hi all, first post, so be gentle with me! technically the above is not true, as i'm a first generation brit born jamaican, contemplating building in Ja (st best) and spending maybe 2/4 months at a time living/working over there. I have enjoyed several holidays back a yard but realise living is a whole different ball game. i guess i'm on here to make some contacts and get a feel for what i may expect. i have a small peice of family land i could build on but want to feel things out first. any of you guys got any words of wisdom/advise?

most sites i've visitied seem to concern returnees to Ja, ie those of the windrush generation who are retiering and goin; home. is there many on here who are brit/us/canadian born, thinking of going to maybe their parants/grandparents homeland?

ive spent a year in Ja and it is definitely different from being on holiday there. it can be very hard at times. feel free to pm me if you want more detailed advice. you do have 2 things going for you though that will make it easier for you than it was for me. you will be entitled to citizenship because of your parents and also you have land to build on. i would say go right ahead and do it. even my hardest times there were better than my best times in england (well maybe im exagerrating a likkle lol).

First let me welcome you to ETJ. Next let me bash you....just for the sake of doing it since you asked us to be gentle........what to say....what to say. Ok, enough of the bashing.
What work would you want to do while in Jamaica. This is the catch 22 most Jamaicans (1st-2nd generation) find themselves in...wanting to spend more time in Ja while earning a living overseas. What would you do with the property while you are away? If you want to retire in Jamaica, keep contact in the community where the land is so if you want 2 live ther eventually you wont be a stranger. What else do you need 2 know?
