Hello Everyone
Hey I'm an African American from Connecticut that started dating a Jamaican man about a year ago. He is such a great person. I feel like it's my duty to find out everything I can about his culture so that I can incorporate it into my life. I want to learn how to cook his food from back home and make him as comfortable as possible. He is one of the most attentive men I've ever met. He watched me for over a month before he said anything to me. He went to bars and other place to see if I was the type of woman that hangs out. He shows me so much respect. I am so impressed with the fact that he has been raising his son as a single parent since his son was 6 months old. We met on the train going back and forth to work. He recently proposed to me on the train....But I told him we are going to have to wait until I finish my degree. I can't plan a wedding and do my Master's too. I think it would be too much.
I hear a lot of women complain about how their Jamaican man cheats on them and does all kinds of things to them, but I was blessed to met a Jamaican man that shows me the up most respect. He goes to church with me and stays in the house with me. Along with loving the way he treats me, I also love his nice body and the accent just sends me over the edge. Something else I love about him. He helped me overcome the sad way I viewed myself. I got sick a while back and the meds I took packed on over 100 pounds and I just did not appreciate being big. I thought he was playing a joke on me or doing a dare when he approached me, but he was very sincere. Everyday he would tell me you are secure. I'm here for you, you don't have to worry. Now I'm very confident and he said he finds my newfound confidence very sexy.
I just ordered 8 different cookbooks to learn how to prepare foods he likes, as he says, there are Jamaican Restaurants around town, but he would prefere not to spend all our money there. He loves my soul food cooking, but he likes his food from home too. I hope to learn as much positive information as I can about Jamaican men, people in general. I also want to distill the myth that AA women don't support or take care of their man. My man can attest to the fact that he never has to ask me to do anything, such as clean the house, wash his clothes, or cook. I do it.
The thing I really love about my Jamaican man is how every morning when I wake up, he's is laying next to me in bed and ready to pounce on me soon as my eyes open.

Welcome to ETJ.
There is a lot you can learn here about Jamaica and its culture...The Good the Bad and the Indifferent.
Please note, however...While its important to understand where your man is coming from, often times, it has little or no impact on who he is today and where he is going.
Whatever you learn about Jamaica and Jamaicans, use it as a guide not as a rule.
What really matters is learning more about THAT man you see each morning when you open your eyes.; not some other man you hear about on an Internet forum.
Love and cherish him and MAKE SURE that you get the same in return. And when that special days comes along, please MAKE SURE that you take enough pictures so you can come back and post them here for all to see.
Until then, once again, welcome aboard.
