I am new to this site and so far it is great! I posted a question concerning JA tariffs on gifts I have to bring to my friends in Negril. Just a little something about me. I have been going home to JA since 1989 usually two times a year. The last four years have been a little difficult and it has not been possible. The first time I went, after reading and studying the island for 15 years I was married with three children, 12,6,and 5. I bought the tickets $150.00RT on my husbands charge card. I told him we were going and he said that was impossible! I couldn't just up and take 3 children to another country and get about. I never doubted that I could. So when the tickets arrived it hit him. He said "you're really going to do this?!" I said yes and there is a ticket for you if you want to go. The trip was to be for two weeks and I had arranged to rent a car and plotted a course to travel the Island. Well long story short, because there are MANY stories, we did not come home for six weeks! All of us were in tears when we left and cried for four hours on the flight to US. My first trip to JA was after Gilbert, few phones, no tv, radio soap operas and the red stripe had no guns, no crack cocaine, etc. a lot has changed, a lot for the worse due to outsiders greed and island economy but just like a child I will not love JA any less for the misbehaving just keep going and love the good. Do what little I can to encourage the good and always, always RESPECT!!!
