New member - I have a question...
Hello everyone. I just visited Jamaica for the first time by cruise ship this past week (very beautiful). I was snorkeling at Sunset Beach and I saw a snake in the water. It appeared to be yellow with red spots and about 2 feet long. What kind of snake could this have been? Is it common to see snakes in the water in Jamaica?
Thank you.

Welcome Mystic! Good to know you're experienced our island!
I've never seen snakes in the water but someone probably has an answer for you.

Welcome to ETJ Mystic. I'm sure there are those on the board who can fill you in on Jamaican snakes. Hotteach and JamCan in particular have pretty good knowledge, of the anaconda at least--maybe others.

LOL Urban, I have swam in the sea many times and never seen a snake either even while snorkling, but someone will know on this board!

Yes, Hotteach seem to have been intruiged with jamaican snakes, she studies them pretty closely and might even eat them if she gets the chance. Poor Anaconda!

Jomo's Girl actually imported one to the US, most pro'ly for breeding, I heard that Jamaican snakes are kinda "in" style these days in the US.

Re: New member - I have a question...
You guys are so nasty. This is actually a valid question. Jomo & I went to the St. Louis Zoo and saw a snaked like this. It was called a Jamaican.........(Can't really remember the name; but I do remember commenting on it!)

Re: New member - I have a question...
ROTFDWL.... Actually I am in the possesion of a J.S.D. (Jamaican Snake Detector) And this device has been very helpfull in the past, I point the detector in the direction of the snake, which I assume is Jamaican, it will slightly start beeping if my assumption is right. The different beep types define what kind of Jamaican snake it is.
