Question How To Bleach

Hi Everyone,

I am Darla I was born in Jamaica but I now live in Canada. I was so happy when I found this website because Ican now bond with fellow Jamaicans. I have a question and I hope I wont be judged for asking. I was wondering if anyone knew any effective bleaching methods, I want to even out my skin tone. I know that alot of people in Jamaica "Bleach" so maybe I can get some help.

Thank YOu!

Re: How To Bleach

Welcome Darla. Sorry I cant help you, the only thing I know about bleaching is pouring bleach unto white shirts. I suspect though that it might be more preception than reality that alot of people in Jamaica "bleach". Good luck.

Re: How To Bleach

Hi welcome Darla, most people who I see bleaching in Jamaica used a product called ambi (sp) but they without exception lived in the inner city or garrisons of Kingston, not many people as Samba stated actually 'bleach". It's considered a form of mental slavery and not healthy either as some harsh chemicals are used to get the job done. If you have access to a doctor I would do to a dermatologist in Canada and seek their advice. Remember short cut draw blood, so beware of the long term effects of bleaching. Bleaching is also common in countries with a colonial past (hence the mental slavery analogy) i.e Phillipines, India, Singapore, africa etc. So shops that cater to these groups also might carry the over the counter product. Good luck and be careful what you put in your body, as it is the only one you have for your entire life.

Re: How To Bleach

Hi Darla, Welcome to ETJ. Regarding bleaching, there is a fairly recent thread in the Beauty and Fashion forum if you haven't already checked it out.

Thank you for your reply, The last time I was in Jamaica which was Jan 2005 I stayed in Kingston and believe me when I say alot of the people there were bleaching, even a few men. When I went Downtown I saw women with bleaching creams on sale in their own little corner. I did not purchase any because I did not know what was in it and if it would ruin my skin. I have read numerous articles about Jamaican women bleaching because they feel like people with light brown complexions get ahead in Jamaica. I don't agree with that though!

Re: How To Bleach

No Darla weh mi a seh is I have a birthmark that most peole would have tried to treat somehow, its in my face and as I got older it got bigger and lighter and still I will not do anything to change it what I'm really encouraging you to do is to love yourself as you are and whomever can't appreciate you as you are then f them but it has to start with you ma. Anyway good luck in your endeavors to bleach but keep in mind that skin cancer can be caused by some of these creams.

Hey Darla

Have you tried Palmers Cocoa Butter??? I used it when I got Chicken pox @ 17y.o and it helped to rid of the dark blemishes that it left behind
