hi all, just wanted to introduce myself to the group.
been back only twice but can't wait to return to the land of my birth -- for good. many things about jamaica are cause for concern, but i want to be surrounded by myself all the time, and hear my voice everywhere.
talk soon,
nzeee

thanks for the warm welcome everyone. that was very quick, never joined a forum before but i somehow expected that no one would take the time just to say hello.
i've been poking my head around this forum for the past several hours now (don't ask, it's a cold saturday in toronto) and though some of the views i read give me pause, i'm hoping to be able to stick around for a bit and meet some interesting people.
not planning to be in JA for another year (returned middle of january) but i would love to hook up with samba and jamaica miss when i do arrive (and kng20 if he lives there). and hopefully i will meet more people i would want to visit over time spent here.
again, thank you for being inviting. i'm sure this forum will give me a lot to think about (if nothing else)

welcome nz. i'm glad you've joined us. how long have you been away from jamaica? my classroom is participating in a pen pal project with a school in lyssons. i will be meeting them next month and i have been invited to be a guest teacher. i am very excited at the opportunity of teaching jamaican children, even if it is just for one day.
how exciting that you will be teaching in Lyssons for a day! That sounds like fun. And how did you ever create a penpal relationship w/ such a tiny little community? do you have a connection there?
btw: what school will you be teaching at? I attended Lyssons public when i lived there.
to answer your question; i've lived in canada for the better part of my life. Jeft Jamaic when i was about 9yrs old and stayed away (not consciously) for many many years. My first trip back in about 12yrs was last summer, then i visited again late dec/jan of this year and confirmed that i was definitely more comfortable at home rather than in T.O.
A funny thing is that since i've been away long enuf to be considered a foreignor so it's sometimes odd interacting w/ people in the community who see me as an outsider for the most part.
anyhow, please tell me all about your trip. you might be interested in these photos i took in january... i am in the process of creating a photo book (self-published) for the Lyssons Public school: http://www.nzeee.com/jamaica/collection02_gal.html

NZ, I looooooved watching the slide show of your photos. as a teacher and a person who loves children I enjoyed the pictures so much. You have captured the beauty of those school chlidren in a way that has touched my heart. I watched it over and over...thanks for sharing it!!!
wow nz your photographs are fantastic! the children are portrayed so beautifully. i wish my photography was half as good as what you showed me. i can only imagine your surprise with how i got connected with such a small community. well i have some friends (i met them on etj nearly 3 years ago) that live in morant bay and their children attend a school called providence prep. my understanding is that this school is relatively new. it was founded only a few years ago and the enrollment has really blossomed. i've been to jamaica 7 times but i've always stayed in montego bay. this time i'm spending 2 days in morant bay to visit the school as well as my friends. it will be nice to get away from tourism.
thanks for sharing your story. how strange it must feel for you to be seen as a foreigner in your own country. i can understand why you're yearning to move back. i've considered moving there myself. it is a blessing that you did spend your childhood years there. i am the child of an immigrant (my mother is from the philippines) and i've never been to visit nor can i speak the language.
Hi Nzegwhua, sorry it's taken me a while to get round to saying hello. hope you enjoy yourself here and that your dream of returning to Jamaica is soon realised.

Blessed sistren, apologies mi neva see yu post before, I dont usually visit the site on the regular, I do not live in JA but I am putting in place investments to facilitate my return. I thought your pictures were great, I saw myself in those school youths and it is a strong desire to give back to the youths that drive me to be sucessful in babylon. When you move back I would love to link with you maybe even share ideas and turn wi hand mek fashion network and mek some money zeeen, and help uplift jamaica. Dont tek it too hard when people see you as a outsider, in a way living outside of jamaica has changed us all we not the same innocent individuals who left Norman Manely or Sangsters that fateful day...but know if your heart that you will always be a Jamaican and been seen as a commrade to all consious yard people. Respect everytime and stick around, mi like people who mi can reason and vibes wid..
NZE: I really enjoyed your collage, especially the sepia toned ones. It seems to bring out more character in the faces of the children.
I will pm you with info on how to contact me. I would be delighted to meet with you, providing I am on the Rock when you return. It is necessary for me to return to the US periodically.
