Any Advice?
First let me start by saying that I've almost always been a spur of the moment type person who believes in destiny and creating your own reality.....
Which is why after my long awaited first trip to JA....I knew that I wanted to live there....I know everybody probably says that after their first trip. But for me it was like coming home to people who were on the same page as me. As I said in another post I have been growing locs and seeking Rasta for about 9 years also selecting reggae music...and dating african/american brothers who are growing locs and have the same beliefs. I have a beautiful mixed daughter (I am white) who is 3 yrs. old....so you could probably see why I would feel at home I have done alot of traveling Nationally (in the US) even as far as Hawaii where I lived for 8 months and had been planning to move to permanantly.... until I came to JA. So this sister and I came up with a plan to start a small buisness with this Jamaican brother (very sweet honest guy, that we met in Negril) He is a chef (aren't they all though ?) and he wants to open a restaraunt...so we found this really cool cheap spot for rent, it's kind of off the beaten path..in the west end of negril but still easily noticable from the road...it has a stage and alot of room for outdoor tables and booths or whatever. The rent is unbelievably cheap...and start up for a restaraunt in Negril could be enough money to serve our first dinner.....hey you know how it is in Negril!!!I also found a furnished room with a kitchen and all utillities for 130USD per month..... right on the beach. Thats 90% cheaper than my bills here in the US even if I included rent on the buisness So my plan is to save up a couple thousand USD and start stocking up on sellable items and go out there pay the rent for at least 3 to 4 months....right away. Try to buy a car or two (depending on how much $) maybe rent one out to a cab driver...then work on the buisness and live in my paradise. I guess for me its not all about the benjamens $$$ I could see myself living happily in a house built in a tree as long as it keeps me dry.....I don't think I would ever be rich money wise....but the quality of life is so much richer there. In my eyes anyway. I guess what I need to know to fufill my dream is where to begin....as a US citizen can I do all these things legally....like buy a car, rent a place and work???? I have been kind of searching on the internet about visas....and costs of shipping (things to sell or personal items). Can I get a Visa if I just have a plan to open a restaraunt?? Or do I need a regular job to get it? If anyone has any kind of advice about "makin it" in JA, or moving from the US to JA...just anything and everytingjamaican.......please let me know! Bless up!
