Re: hello all

There's a Steel Pulse song (Dub Marcus say) that goes like this:

Marcus said, Marcus said (Marcus Garvey)
RED for the blood that flowed like the river
Markus said, Markus said
GREEN for the land - Africa
Markus saaaaid
YELLOW for the gold that they stole
Markus said, Markus said
BLACK for the people - beautiful

So I would have to go with RED, GREEN, YELLOW, BLACK

Re: rasta colors

The types of rastafari (according to source) are, Bobo Shanti, Twelve Tribes and the Nyahbinghi Order. The latter uses different colours, Green(vegetataion of Ethiopia), Gold (mineral wealth of Ethiopia), and, Red (blood of Ethiopians).

Re: rasta colors

red black and green are not rasta colors never have and never will, the red black and green are the colors of african americans, the colors mean
red: the blood that was shed
black: for the people of africa
green: the mother land from which the black people came from

when african americans were stolen from africa i say stolen because it was not by choice, anyway everything was mixed up tribes and lang etc and we were sold from our mothers and fathers so some history was lost. it was a jamaican marcus garvey who gave african americans the flag color and meaning. RASTA COLORS ARE RED GOLD GREEN./ or pan african colors giving by marcus garvey

Re: rasta colors

Here is what I have read: They are the colors of the Ethiopian flag. These colors seem to have their source in the Marcus Garvey movement. The color red stands for the Church Triumphant which is the only church of the Rastas. It also symbolizes the blood that martyrs have shed in the history of the Rastas. The yellow represents the wealth of the homeland. Green represents the beauty and vegetation of Ethiopia, the promised home land. Sometimes black is used as an alternative to represent the color of Africans, from which Jamaicans are descended. I have also seen them called "hip-hop" colors.

Re: rasta colors

great post i love that post, it's true, but black people do not call them hip hop colors, im not going to say no names but them other people do so that blacks young blacks don't know what the colors stand for, so they say hip hop and i say bullsh%t the colors are rep africa and africa only. those colors was out way before hip hop existed. who ever say hip hop colors are red gold and green or red black and green are really idiots.

Re: rasta colors

i didn't think i would come back to this thread but, i noticed a lot of guest looking at it, even printing it. so i just wanted to add that even though that this thread is called rasta colors. the colors red gold and green are really pan african colors that was given to all blacks by marcus garvey. i know you may see the "rasta" bands and stuff like that but those colors are in a lot of countries in africa. and africans did not adopt them colors until after his movement.

now red black and green, what marucs did with that ,he change it at the last minute. the colors was going to be red black green and gold. with the last colors being gold. for reasons unknown he drop the gold when he introduced the flags to the black people. i advise any guest who reads this if you have not, read about and learn about marucs garvey because before martin, huey and x it was he.
