Re: moving to jamaica need help

Hi Rachel, welcome in the forum.
The experience i made with moving to another country are the following (i moved twice..):
- i travelled the country before i decided if i want to go and were i could imagine to stay.
- at this place, where i finally wanted to be i got information about things like the housing situation, the economical situation in general, the job market, which insurance i would get there which one i would need to take care of at home and how much money i would need for the first months in the worst of all cases.

that plan worked twice successfully. I can just recommend to have a look at the country first, before moving. Good luck to you!

Re: moving to jamaica need help

Negril is my favorite, but if you do not like tourists and lots of action, perhaps the countryside would be better for you. I live just on the outskirts of negril and find it safe, the people good neighbors and helpful. Negril has less crime than most other areas of Jamaica, it has a great chamber of commerce and a busy rotery club. lots of growth and things to do. beautiful beach , one of the worlds best. living here is not easy, have money or a way to earn it. things move slow, culture very different in so many ways. do not think you will make a jamaican into a western thinking person, won't happen. be flexible and you must do the adjusting. it can be done but it took me 30 years of saving and working to do so, and still it is tight and often difficult. e-mail me at thestoneygate@yahoo,com. if you have any other questions i can help with. jeanie
