Boxing used to be big here, but its popularity has declined over the years. There is a Jamaica Boxing Board of Control and we send fighters to international events from time to time.
There are martial arts schools and clubs in Jamaica. Check the
Yellow Pages.
Our "Busta Fighters" combined martial arts team is tearing up the global competition scene.
I've heard of some "kickboxing" clubs/gyms - BlackDragon Kickboxing and Shi Tai Kickboxing. However I doubt the styles are Muay Thai - most likely just kickboxing (boxing + kicks). Last year and this year there were some
Muay Thai fights put on in Montego Bay. I hear attempts may soon be made to popularize Muay Thai more out here and have some training camps setup. If you know Muay Thai, you may be able to participate in that effort to popularize it here.
The most popular styles here are:
Karate (Shotokan, Seido)
Taekwondo (ITF)
Kung Fu (Northern Shaolin, Eagle Claw, Tai Chi)
There are some guys training in Aikido here.
I hear rumours of some Ninjutsu stuff going on in the shadows ...
I've heard there are some Wing Chun practicioners in the island.
There are clubs in various parts of the island. The main areas of focus though, would be Kingston, St. Catherine (Spanish Town, Portmore), Mandeville, and Montego Bay.
All the best with your training.
