is it possible to move to jamaica? - Jamaica Talk

Me and my brother are saving up to move there, but recently we found out that its not possible to live there for more than 6 months at a time and that we can not even work there? is this true..?

this is what i read...

" Can anyone move to Jamaica?
Jamaican immigrations allows you to stay up to 6 months at a time unless you apply for permanent residency. This is a three year process. Each of those 3 years you must reapply until you become a permanent resident.
Can I seek employment in Jamaica?
Not normally. The exception would be if you had a particular skill not found in Jamaica. If that was the case, a work permit would be required."

I love jamaica and their culture.. and i would love to live there, away from the tourists and all the people.. more of a secluded area..
does anyone know of some other islands similar to jamaica in which if i cannot move to ja, i could move to the other island... sorry

Move to the Florida Keys............... not Key West, but one of the smaller ones could be nice.

u can stay up to 6 months,( weather they figure out your there longer is another story) my 2nd year being there i did not extend my stay, but i did the first year. you need a work permit to work there, if you are from commonwealth country you can get the work permit after you secure your job.

depending on where you live!

If you live in US, some of the USVI might suit you.
if you live in Canada, Im thinking the BVI is worth cheking out!

How are the keys considered an island, or anything even close to Jamaica?

LOL...the keys are islands. Nothing close to JA or even Bahamas (altough they arent THAT far away)..but they are islands...just not carribean islands.LOL

I mean, i live in fla, the keys are hardly considered an island! lololol, and they are overrun by upity people....so hardly even close...IMO

^^^please! Aside from a couple of festivals they have a year, and the beaches, aint nothin to do, i mean its pretty, pretty snobby! lol

Guess you don't know the right people in the Keys! lol The ones I know are very laid back and happy..............

Check around on some of the other threads, there's lots of info. Can't tell you myself, but this topic comes up pretty regularly.

Texas....with an occupation like that you might have some luck because children are abundant and education is definitely needed there. And I'm not sure there are so many programs for "special" kids.
