Re: is it possible to move to jamaica?

depends how financially viable you want to be... most people i know that have accepted teaching roles have done so for two reasons, 1) something to make ends meet while waiting for something better to come along, and 2) for the pure love of it...

special needs children are, sadly, often abandoned or left to the system very early... there is very little financial support for the programs that house them and the people that participate in them are often volunteers or very very underpaid for a comparative role in the states...

if you're doing it out of love, there's more than enough need to go around, if you're doing it to make a living, well that's a completely different story...

Re: is it possible to move to jamaica?

I just posted a thread about doing the same.. currently a baking and pastry student. Looking to move or stay and work down there for a few months. From what I understand the cost of living is close to here in the U.S. and school teachers make approx. 10k a yr.

Re: prince charming..the JA men are very charming so be very careful!!!!

Re: is it possible to move to jamaica?

umm im not for sure... personally I sew for a living and have a online shop and also I save before i leave.. I have stayed over the 6 months recently without extending my stay... but u dont have to go back to the states u can leave and go to another small island for a couple of days then come back... about jobs again i dont know much.. Ill prob never have a job in JA unless its my own likkle business or volunteering or I did work at a cafe for two months for up under the table but it was hardly no pay..

How Im looking at it now.. just calculate your cost... for 6 months if you find rent 500. us or cheaper your rent will be 3000. us for that 6 months... then u just think about ur food cost and your way of life.. I live a simple life and am a vegetarian so I fit in pretty well.. I dont need much and I dont do much except for my little travels across the island and when family and friends visit... so for me alone its about another 3000 I wud need to live on when it comes to food.. then u just calculate other things.. so if i went to plan on living there for a year I wud want about 20,000 in my pocket plus a little saving... even though alone I have done much much less and made it work.. I believe it all depends on the type of person you are and how good you are at adjusting.
