Because moving to Jamaica for me is inconsistent with my goals. I still have several mountains left to climb and as much as Jamaica has come a long way in the last 20 years, it stll has not developed to the point that would provide me with any degree of assurance that my goals would be realized in a timely fashion. At this very moment, I have no doubt that I could launch a very successful business venture in Jamaica; I have enough capital, contacts and "collateral" down there to ensure that. But over time and with the poilitical volatility that erupts almost every 4 years...I am not ready to take that chance.

Jamaica is and will always be my home. But for now, I will only return "home'' in short spurts and spend a couple more years here on this "extended vacation".

Re: I am not moving to Jamaica.......

You couldn't pay me to move to Jamaica. For one thing, Jamaicans don't seem to like or respect Americans much so what would be the point?

It's a nice place to vacation for me for now.............................

Generally, Jamaican's like Americans, it's the arrogant, bigoted, narrow minded Americans that get no love.

Re: I am not moving to Jamaica.......

I'm not moving there because after 5 or 6 days, I can't eat any more rice and peas.

I'm not moving there because if I lose 5 pounds in a week, what will I look like in a year?

I'm not moving there because there is no disability insurance company there.

I'm not moving there because I'd never be able to drive on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car.

I can't move there because after 5 or so days, I'm tired of trying to figure out what everybody is trying to say to me in patois.

Pardon my Hijack…for 3 minutes.

LeesaJ,
As you should know by now, I have the greatest amount of mutual respect for you and your views here, so please don’t take it as a personal attack nor a negative undertone.

I think you have a totally convoluted perspective of Jamaica and its people. Whatever exposure you have gained from visiting Jamaica and meeting its people, backed by the obviously unsatisfactory response from the Jamaicans her on ETJ, have certainly lend itself to your skewed view of us.
Your talk of negativity and hostility of Jamaicans towards Americans has not proven credible...At least not in my book. From my position based on your rhetoric over several threads, it serves only to convince me of what I think is your TRUE position...One that I have seen on many occasions in corporate America, the US military and a few individuals in social circles for the many years that I have had the privilege of living in this country.

You are welcome to correct me if I am wrong on this but despite all that you have said, this s is what I hear: "Who are these people from such a small, underdeveloped country that they should have such a pompous attitude; especially to us Americans who because of our tourist dollars and foreign aid has kept them from starvation? What gives them the right to be acting all uppity and all that, when had it not been the mercy of the US in granting them Green cards and stuff, they and all those family members that they have left behind, would all be there fighting and killing each other like the barbarians that they are. They should all be thankful for our handouts instead of behaving like they are more morally and ethically better than us. They have absolutely no sense of appreciation for what we the Great United States have done for many of them."
You might not have said it literally but that is what I am feeling from you. Such rhetoric could only best be completed by two words: "Heil Hitler!” for such would be the ramblings of a self-appointed “conqueror”. Not to imply that you are a Nazi; of course.

Re: I am not moving to Jamaica.......

You know very littleabout Jamaicans and their opinions of Americans. We in Jamaica grew up on idolizing America. The earlier posses, the modern day "don-manship", the clothes, the cars....all "imports" of an American ideology. Very few people meet Jamaicans and come away with bad taste in their mouths. You like many others just believe that since your fore parents fought for and established the Constitution, then it is you who are the "True Americans". America is a melting cauldron that has been boiling and fomenting for years. Throughout its history, many "cooks" has sampled, tasted and added various "ingredients" to the stew; none more or less than the Jamaicans. If we as Jamaicans should be more docile and appreciative of the American "hospitality" then America too must be appreciative of all those who contributed to its greatness.

Some who hold similar views as you often say that we should be thankful of your dollars. But I say that it is many of you who should be thankful of our islands hospitality that provides the outlet to escape from the horrendous, senseless lives that many here lead. Just as how an American tourist could easily spend their tourist dollars somewhere else, we could just as easily entertain tourist from all over the world.
As far as our island home and its people are concerned, we appreciate your patronage but that doesnt mean that we will roll over and kiss unmentionable areas of people's anatomy.
Jamaica is a beauiful country and we as Jamaicans have something that keeps people coming back again and again.
To coin a phrase from the old Kevin Costner movie, 'Field of Dreams': "Since we built it, they will come". <paraphrased>
