Move Jamaica:) From UK small Budget
Hi all to da forum, i new to everythinkjamaican.com
Saveing to live in jamaica maby around kingston but not to sure, in cheap accomodation. Would it be cheaper to rent or get a place max morgage 600,000-1,100,000jmd. I will only have enough money to fly to jamaica direct and not return back to the UK to work things out.
I'm a 20year male saving to go Jamaica, me been saveing since da beginin' of da year. Trying to get £2000 - 240,000 (together by end of 2009) to live in jamaica for next few years (2-5).
Willin' to work up to 30-40hours a week on low wages, i live very cheaply, most me money goes on rent in the UK its a 8mile walk to work and back each day (40hours a week). I're live 20miles outside london and never have much money to go out and not very interested in materialism, so i should be able to live on a cheap amont of money.
Reasons for moveing - more time to play my guitar live free and simple in a beautiful culture and country
-How much is low payed work in jamaica and how avaliable is it?
-Is there a easy way to search for property when in jamaica, (me problerly rent a motobike to look around)?
Do anyone know if 5000 jamiacan dollas (£100) a month is livable?

Not really. And if you have no return ticket, border control will want to know how you can sustain yourself, etc.
Honestly, I urge to go to the high Commission in London and get some good hard info.
Have you been to the island and Kingston before?

Well considering that a tube of toothpaste is 300ja and I assume you would like to eat at least once a day.......5000ja will not even be close to enough. And since you are from farrin you will pay more for everything.....they won't let you in with out a return ticket either...I am pretty sure.

Re: Move Jamaica:) From UK small Budget
Well you should most definitely do some research about Jamaican politics.....cause there is a lot of corruption there too. And there they sometimes rebel by having small wars in their neighborhoods.....

I suggest you go there first to see if you really want to be there also.

That's very good advice. You don't want to move from a situation you don't like to one that you like even less. Life can be tough in Jamaica and while money can't buy happiness it can make life easier. Fi real. Good luck!
Also, I suggest you start reading Jamaican newspapers online to get a feel for wah gwaan there

Thanx for all the great advice, Checking Jamaica out before me go there first is a very good idea, id love to visit first but due to the amount of money , its debateable.
I've been listening to Power 106, online and reading the gleander now and then recently.

Thanks Tom.
Good luck and keep us posted when you visit or move to Ja. Really hope you decide to visit first, I don't think you'd regret it and it would give you an opportunity to make some connections as well...........
