Rental Apartments

Can someone direct me to a site or location that gives me some idea on rents? I'm moving from Canada to Jamaica, looking to shoot a film...I have some minor sources of income so I dont need a work visa for Jamaica.

I'm trying to live on as low a budget as possible, so PLEASe no touristy high-class places.. i cannot afford that.

1 bdrm fine (its just me) .. AC internet would be good.

Fairly flexible on location, tho I think Kingston being a big city may be best.

Just someplace safe and decent.

Thx, any help would be appreciated.

Having income has nothing to do with whether you need a work visa. You will need a work permit if you plan on staying more than 6 months.

Re: Rental Apartments

How do you plan on getting from your apt to where you are filming?

Oh i didnt know that.

Might have to do something creative.. like fly to another island after 6 months, loiter in their airport for a few hours then fly back in.

As a Canadian citizen I've done that a few times in the States. Stay 5 months, fly back to Canada for a couple of days, then re-enter.

Ummm yea, there's not really a "transit" system as we know it.

Which part of Canada you in? I'm there too.

Yea you could do that. You have to watch what they stamp your passport for. Usually mine only gets stamped for 3 months. You might have to go to Kingston and get that extended.

What town are you filming in? While Jamaica looks small on the maps, the roads don't really go in a straight line and most of roads in the mountains are only safely traveled at really slow speeds. What I'm trying to say is that on a map it might look like point A and point B are 20 miles apart where it might take you well over an hour to travel between the two points.

Re: Rental Apartments

Why not check the classified ads in the Gleaner. I imagine they'll adjust the prices some for you but it seems a good place to start.
