Having a TRN has only become mandetory in last 4 years. It took 1 day to get the temporary number.
Hope all works out in JA for you
I got the number same day, but the actual official card takes a good month to process and i wasn't in ja for a month.

If you are not going to be there to pick it up, make sure to write the name and address of a person in Ja who will be authorized to pick it up for you.

Why would you take it as applying to every retiree? It's a general statement about the general attitude of certain jamaicans who don't want to go back and do anything but what i said. For the ones who aren't thinking like those, then ignore. But there are plenty who want to put in their best working years in the US and everywhere else, and specifically avoid going back to ja til they are retired. Plus you said "over there" it sounds like you don't live there. I am talking about the ones who avoid ja on purpose til retirement. I don't care if they look like at 65 like sophia loren did at 35, that type is getting lumped in the group.

Well its the number i would need to open a bank account.
Oh ok. Well, i don't feel the need to encourage foreigners because if they are reading this they are the ones that are dying to go anyway, no encouragement necessary. Plus returning residents are a whole different thing from foreign residents...so i don't have all the details on advising them. Except in this thread's case cause my son is American and would also be a foreign resident like their children. (Well, he can get citizenship by descent through me but that wouldn't be happening immediately.)
