So, my plans are still on for Aug.. I will most likely be going back to Hanover and be looking for a one bedroom apartment from there.. plus I have a couple of friends there with a car and that will be lots of help..

Anywho... I want to get a cell phone before or right when I get there.. I am trying to see whats the best thing.. my friend tells me that I should just buy a chip phone here get it unlocked and buy a chip when I get there...

What do you guys think...

How much are the phones in the airport.. Is it even worth buying in the airport... Is it best to just do what my friend said.. I mean i want to make sure I have a phone this time around. Last time I didnt and it was hard trying to find a payphone and using my landlord phone because she was always on it.. and I would have to buy her phone cards which I didnt even get to use the whole card.. "sucks teeth"

Any suggestions would be great... !!!

Go on ebay and buy an unlocked phone I got one for like 25 dollars and had it sent to me before I left. I also puchased a digicel phone chip on ebay that I put in the phone and it worked as soon as I landed. If your flight gets in late at night like mine there is nothing open in the airport to but it from....

I have taken a handful of unlocked phones into JA. You just buy & insert a chip from there.

I would not buy one in the airport for any reason. They will gouge you beyond belief.

Just buy one from Digicel, if you dont want it be anything special just to be able to make phone calls with they have nokia phones from $1200JA to $7000 JA.

In England is almost pennies (under £5) to get a phone unlocked at any phone shop...so i'd say if you got a nice phone that you use or wanna use, just unlock dat, carry it wid you to Jmax and put in any chip you want...ive done it b4...simple tings :P

So you can just buy a sim card when you arrive from Digicel? That seems like the best idea. I just don't want to lose my current sim card. It has a lot of numbers I do not want to lose. I'll just back it up before I leave.

In the UK you can actually purchase digicell simcards from Jamaica National - it is worth a try in your home country.
