So I have been to Jamaica a few times... I have stayed in clarendon Montego bay and Hanover. I stayed in Hanover for a couple of months... I could go back to that studio apartment which I payed 30,000 Jm for a month about 400 u.s bucks... but that will be my last option.. Im looking to go somewhere to and experience.
I am thinking about moving to Jamaica not for sure which part yet. I am planning on coming back in Aug. and staying for a while.. longer than 3 months. every 3 months then stay gone for a month then back for another 3 - 6 months...
I make my own money I am a designer. I can make money about any where I go.. and when I was in Hanover in two months . wel actually a month becuz one month I was sewing. I sold 10 dresses which was my rent money... but I do have savings (but still on a budget).
If anybody knows any nice places that for rent no more than 450. us amonth I might be able to do 500 (if I could get 400 that would be ideal). depending on the place and the location... Im not for sure what area.. Im looking for something new. Yet i want to make sure Im in a safe area (I know no matter where you go there can be danger). I am a single blk female of mixed races (yet I am cultured so I dont look like the average female).
Places I have been researching in no particular order:
Negril, St. Ann, St. Andrew....
haha when I started typing those I have a bunch in my head but now there gone...
anyhow.. Im not opposed to just those area's. Please if you know anything let me know...
Even though I loved hanover I would like to experience another part... If I cant find anything I will go back there.
Welcome to ETJ Princess. Did you read some of our other threads in this section? I believe that there are links posted to sites that would have rental property info.
Yeh I have read some... I have visited alot of those sites.. Just thought I would get somemone input maybe somebody knows someone personal.. I dunno.. a hookup or something.. lol...
so I found a pretty nice guest house that has like 10 rooms.. look pretty good.. nice reviews.. the guy says he could do 300 a month... doesnt seem that bad.. I was thinking I could start there for a month or so and see how I like it in that area and maybe find a apartment from there... what do you think of that ideal??
It is in ORACABESSA, St. Mary.. Does anyone know about this area. Is it considered one of the safe area's... ???
ShyCutieGirl and I have been to St. Mary -- and driven through Oracabessa a few times. It's outside of the tourist areas but a well known spot (James Bond Beach) -- and, from what I know, should be decent.
They have a kitchen in the house that is accessible for free.. ... it is at ParadiseJamaica.com.. check it out.. if anything it could be a starting point for a area Im not use too...
... I dunno.. my sistren just sent me a email telling me that she will be there also.. and to give her a call.. we shall see.. I guess I have plenty of time to find something( if I happen to get a hook up before aug. I wil def. leave sooner!!)).. then I can always go and pay for a month and search around.. thats how I found my studio apartment in Hanover.. well actually I was referred.. so we shall see.. Thank you guys so much.. and when i get situated.. you are welcome to come
Did you try to PM Jamaica Miss and see if she had any insights?
Maybe Lady Sizzla too.

If you want some general information on moving to live in Jamaica, I have been writing about what my own experience on my blog -- francismove.blogpsot.com
The key is be as fully prepared as possible, to take away any of the more obvious surprises (like discovering that work permits now cost US$1500.)
With preparation, the culture shock need not be as bad as it can be!
Everything in regards to visas has gone up in price, dramatically.
