Re: Cost of living in Jamaica
Nope. Staying in Mobay....free place to stay and Sumfest is there. I'll be in JMiss's old hood. But if we're on the island at the same time we'll make it work.

Re: Cost of living in Jamaica
uNLESS YOU HAVE SOME GOODMONEY SAVED UP AND HAVE A PLAN, THEN KUDOS TO YOU IN JAMAICA. COST OF LIVING CAN BE HIGH OR LOW DEPENDING IN YOUR POCKETS.
YOU CAN BE LUCKY TO RENT A NICE PLACE FOR CHEAP OR GET A NICE FAMILY TO RENT FROM REASONABLE PRICE WITHOUT RIP OFFS. OR YOU WILL BE PAING TONS. LAST I CHECKED RENT IS ABOUT $10,000 TO $15,000 JA A MNTH FOR ONE TO 2 BEDROOM HOUSE WITH KITCHEN AND BATHROOM AND A LIL LIVING ROOM.
IF U FIND THE RIGHT ROOM ETC AND IS WILLING TO WORK DOWN THERE THAT WOULD BE NICE (UNLESS YOU HAVE SOME ROTTEN RICH MOUNT A MONEY).

Re: Cost of living in Jamaica
for someone thinking about spending the summer in JA after graduation this is a really helpful thread. Does anyone know if the cost of living has gone up at all in the last few months?

Re: Cost of living in Jamaica
I think it depends on where you going to be and what lifestyle you're after. The government here does shopping survey's and they were saying yesterday that the prices have gone down a bit. Petrol is going up I think.
Keep an eye on the Gleaner newspaper. One thing I actually noticed (and other people told me) is that crime at the moment seems to be moving out to the country, away from Kingston and Spanish Town. I was in ST earlier in the week and it seemed eerily quiet. Except for the taxi depot - which is always crazy.
