Thinking about moving to Jamaica...

Hi Everyone! I'm thinking about escaping to Jamaica after graduation so I can hold off on getting a job for six months!

I wont have much money, especially after buying the plane ticket. I can't find anything about the exchange rate right now...can someone let me know what it's like?

Also, I'm not sure what city I want to go to...are there cities that are not as expensive to live in as others? Also, are there towns that a twenty somthing girl would be a little safer in living alone?

I read somewhere that in order to work there, I have to have a skill that not everyone has in Jamaica, or something to that effect. Is there anyone that works, and how easy was it to get a permit?

Re: Thinking about moving to Jamaica...

Work permit is not that easy to come buy, easier if your maried to a jamaican and get residency as well. Everywhere is what you make of it and how you conduct yourself to make it safe. Like anywjere smart decisions are what one should always make.

It you go to xe.com you can get the exchange rate for any currency in the world, i think the us exchange is about 70 to 1 doller JMD. I used tio live in the hills near nine mile and felt very safe but that was me cant speak for anyone else. I have driven all over the island by myself as well and never had a problem. again thats just me

Re: Thinking about moving to Jamaica...

I am 23 years old 24 in Aug. and When I was 22 I lived there for a couple of months... It is how you carry yourself.. I am more of a modest dresser so I didnt get messed with (well by the rasta men) but not dangerous.. I made sure I never was out alone at dark, and pretty much didnt get my self in any situation that would cause me any drama.. I am a believer that if you dont put your self in the wrong place at the wrong time you will have more chances of not being in the wrong place at the wrong time,(if that makes any sense at all)...

Anywho.. I do plan on going to back in Aug for a longer period.. we can connect iif you need anymore help.
