Re: I'm moving to jamaica on october
Good luck awes in JA! We all envy you!!! I'm not sure how your going about moving to Ja but I did the same thing 4 1/2 yrs. ago. I meet a Ja man and married him. It only lasted 3 1/2 months. I believe you need a work permit to work, do you have a trade? What do you do for a living? As far as I know your only aloud to stay in Ja for 6 months unless Immigration grants you longer, then you must go and come back. Unless you marry but still need to go to Immig. office. Are you becoming rastafarian or are you now?
Jamaicamiss will know more about Mo bay, she's moving there in Oct.

I guess, You go girl! You have a lot of spunk that's for sure!!! Do you at least know somebody in MoBay??? Have you read the thread "rasta colors" ?(in the same topic by yours) Go in there and read A web site that tells you about Rastafari, I found it very interesting! ( I think by Jayro?) You can go other places and be Rasta also.
No matter what you do, God Bless you and keep you safe!!! You are a brave young woman, my Baby and only child will be 18yrs. in Nov. so I really worry also as a MOM!!!

Re: I'm moving to jamaica on october
That is some serious dedication to the rasta system, but you should revise and do some serious planning when it comes to movement. Getting up and moving like that on one grounds but moreso, an unplanned grounds is just asking for trouble.
Please reconsider! and you are still young, 18. You have to think about your education, money, skills and career that you might have or don't have to support your self and other factors that may affect you.
Love for a country is one, but love with proper planning is another. You donot want to go in to a new culture, ground, territory unprepared.
I write this inlove hoping you will reconsider and then proceed. However, you are free to do what ever you wish, and I hope it all works in your favour.
Peace and love, PB.

Re: I'm moving to jamaica on october
Hey awes ... Greetings in the name of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie 1.
I feel real good to know that you have at such a young age found Rastafari. However, being a Rasta myself I have to let you know that the road on which you trod is not an easy one. Babylon will always beon your back and you will be constantly looked on as foolish. I you are totally sure that is where you heart leads you ...then go forth my child and guidance. On this moving to Mobay thing with no idea...where you going or to do do what...u lick u head? Find out at least a place to live first before you go. I have friends in Mobay ...really good friends and its not easy to get around on nothing there ...so be careful...and keep me posted on the happenings. Blessed Love.

Re: I'm moving to jamaica on october
I hope you have enough money. Any place requires that. And according to riley69, 40,000 ja dollars a month is a very small amount. I want to move to Jamaica too, but not before i save up quite enough before i get there. At least enough to buy some real estate.

Re: I'm moving to jamaica on october
Any of you considering moving here to Jamaica should seriously think about it. If you can find a job for 40K a month you will barely eke out a living, and if they will give you a work permit. Most of the Jamaicans I know do not make that much a month. Utilities are high, some rent is cheap like 12K for a bare bones place but most are more that that, food is high and going up as we speak. Then there is transportation. It is 100JA just for a small trip one way, and depending on where you are living it could be 150-200. So let's say it's 100, 200 round trip, 20 days of work, that's 4000 a month. By now your 40K is almost gone. That does not include clothes, toiletries, other incidentals. And forget fun. There's nothing left.
I don't want to discourage any of you from realizing your dream, but a good amount in the bank would help before you take the plunge.

Agreed Miss because even the Police barely make 40K a month so I doubt a tourist would.

Re: I'm moving to jamaica on october
hi everyone
me and my brother have visited jamaica twice now and like most people fell in love with it, the people atmosphere everything..
we both would like to live out there, i understand its quite difficult to get a job there, would that be the case if it was a job in healthcare??
we are looking at real estate possibly buying a apartment to start with and renting it out to make some money
if anyone could drop by and give me some advice that would be great

Re: I'm moving to jamaica on october
Laura: You need a work permit. There are different rules for the country you come from and I think it would be difficult no matter what your occupation, but not impossible. The best thing to do before buying anything here is to come for about a month and pound the pavement, sit in government offices for hours and maybe get your answers. But to come over here cold case is another thing expecting to get a job soon after you arrive.
And do you have the money set aside for the apartment? If not be advised that interest rates, if you can get a loan here are at 17-22 % for homes. Rent is cheaper here than in the US, so the rate of return on your investment would be low.
I do not want to discourage anyone from realizing their dream, but think it over, study the Jamaican boards, and read everything you can about Jamaica. A vacation in Paradise is very different from living here.

Laura: if you want to meet somewhere, and it's before March 25, I would be glad to meet you somewhere in Mobay or Negril and chat about what's what here. Just PM me.
