Re: Want to move to jamaica!!
I do have to leave every six months. I doubt I will ever get residency or citizenship. You have to come back quicker than I do which is less than 3 weeks absence. I need to be in the US more than that. You also have to live here 5 years with the 3 week absence in order to apply for residency. Citizenship requires a bunch of paperwork, references, posting in the newspapers, ad infinitum. You also need to show you can take care of yourself in Jamaica monetarily.
It is a very good suggestion to come here and stay for awhile before you make the final move. It is not Paradise all the time. In fact it is pure hell in some instances. This country is about 30-40 years behind America in lots of ways. You have to contend with rude people, horrible roads, lack of merchandise that you need or want, beggars daily, and a snail's pace for many projects that you are trying to accomplish.
But it is a beautiful place, good weather most of the time, some very lovely Jamaican people I can call friends, and the vibes are wonderful here. Their attitude of No Problem is uplifting to me, because I hear so many complaints from Americans when I return and they have it made in the shade compared to the Jamaican people.
Do lots of research, check out ETJ for good info and other boards also before taking the plunge. Good luck.
