Real Estate GURUS!!! Please help! Want to buy a house in JA!!!
I'm trying to figure out if a US citizen (in California) can use a Mortgage Co in the US to purchase a home in JA? Does anyone know the legalities of this issue? I imagine there is some kind of additional fee but with interest rates here so low and interest rates in JA around 13% it seems like it still might be worth it if it can be done? Anyone know anything??? Resources???

Yes I think you can. I have a friend who is the liason between the US and Jamaica. Personally however, I do not have all the resources and details to tell you. You can also try to contact pseudoyardie she is a real estate agent and can probably further broaden your arisens.
By the way, good move in trying to get an asset like a house in Jamaica.

I am a Mortgage Underwriter for a Real Estate Financial Company, and a Real Estate Junkie, and I can definitely help out. I am going to do some research and get back to you Miss B. I left my e-mail address in your PM. Trust me, I will find you something. I have a lot of connections, even one in Ja.

Hey Hey Ladies! Just got back from Negril and I have the same question! I own my house in NYC and made the time to look at a few places on-Island but am clueless as to how to finance an international purchase. Would be interested in collaboration with the like minded any info would be appreciated. thanks in advance
Re: Real Estate GURUS!!! Please help! Want to buy a house in JA!!!
hey Pseudoyardie, you forget me? they best I could find so far is a home equity loan based on the property I own in NYC and then do a cash deal in yawd. gotta be a betta way! that's a lotta $$$ to hand over! why nobody wants to lend to buy in JA!?! I found place for Belize, Antigua, Bahamas and whole lot if you're from UK but nothing for an American looking for that bit of paradise. You know any bankers? maybe we get someone to start a program or something!
Re: Real Estate GURUS!!! Please help! Want to buy a house in JA!!!
Pyardie--I'm counting on ya! I talked with a friend of mine who is a real estate agent here in CA. He says that the laws are the same in JA as in Bahamas...I don't believe it...it can't be that easy. The lending thing is a huge issue for me. I guess I could just get a personal loan at some point. They wouldn't have any idea what I was using the money for. Ugh. So frustrating. Part of the issue is the interest on a mortgage can be written off...so I don't want to get a personal loan. Keep on looking folks...there MUST be a way. Millionaires don't plop down cash to buy a house. There must be a way!
