Greetings everyone. So I have been saving up some cash for a while now and am comfortable to say let me just get up and go.... so anyhow.... I found this unbeleivable house for rent online for about 170 U.S a month money,... I thought that would be a great place to start. It is in Happy Grove Dist. Hectors River, Portland. How is it there.. How is the crime rate? Is it in the Hills, close to blue mout., I once was taken through portland and they told me this was a part of blue mout.

also Ive been searching for land... and living there would be a great place for me to go from.. because Im on a budget and I just know if there is a 12000JA for rent house, I have to find some cheeap land I just think I need to be there to do so. I did see on this one site some land for 12000 U.s dollors it was for like a 1/4 arce (is that cheap in J.A) although a friend of mind that is living there now , he told me that you could get a lot of land for like 1000. u.s. dollors, IS THAT TRUE?

He also went on to tell me that there is so much land in Jamaica that the goverment doesnt care about that you can go find you some vacant land and build a house on it and either two things would happen:

1. You will be there for 7 years and then can go apply to own the land
or
2 . that you will get notice and if ur house is build right the goverment will tell you that you have to pay taxes..

I found it very strange but he say it is very true... what do you think of this... and again about Happy Grove Dist. Hectors River, Portland!!!

Dunno about Portland, but the bit you heard about the land is true.

Cost-wise I pay 9000 JA for a wooden house, in the same area its 22000 JA for a concrete house. Most of the cheapest housing is best to get through word of mouth but it all depends on how whether your willing to live without mod cons etc

My ADVICE:

1. Take a visit to Jamaica.

2. Stay at a Hotel of Guest House in New Kingston, Ocho Rios or better yet, in Port Antonio.

3. Hire a taxi Driver and take a Day trip to Hectors River or wherevr else you may choose to be interested in.

4. Stop at the localPolice station, make "general inquiries there. Then meet with some of the locals and make other inquiries.

5. Do not attempt to "capture" any land there and build a house. Even when the government doesnit immediately step in, there is always a local who will wait until you have cleaned teheland and build a house only to see then step forward later on, with claims and titles in hand.
Results: You lose.

maybe i didnt explain clearly. the prices I quoted were rentals per month based on the area I live. This area is land claimed by people that the government has not yet given legally on paper. So what I meant is you could rent a place cheap enough while you looked into the options of buying property or land. Im from England and live with a Jamaican boyfriend for the 6 mth the immigration dept allow me then I leave and come back. Living in Jamaica permanently is complicated but possible. Good luck in your efforts.
