Hey everyone, I'm a college student in Colorado right now, but I'm looking at spending a few months in Jamaica since I'm taking next semester off anyhow. I've been having a really hard time finding employment and housing opportunities. I imagine it can't be too difficult to find something near a tourist destination, but I'm hoping some of your local knowledge can help me out. I'm just looking for a steady job that will cover the costs of my housing and food, location doesn't really matter, but closer to the beaches would be ideal so I could do some diving. If you have any information that would be useful please let me know!! I would love to move to Jamaica for a couple of months if possible!

to work here you need to apply for a work permit and to be honest your pretty unlikely to get one (check the embassy website). as for places to stay these are numerous and most likely in tourist resorts, however more expensive. Unless you have jamaican friends/family to find somewhere for you, you will get charged extra in everything you need just for being foreign. i hope you have plenty of money to bring and consider it an extended holiday and forget the idea of working.

I agree Lady been there done that, its not as easy as people think it is. Its all different once your there for a longer period of time and your no longer a "tourist"

Yeh Im feeling that now Damswell. People used to me being around now. Id rest a bit easier though once my paperwork is done and I know I can definitely stay here longer.

She can stay for up to 6 months but working is near to immpossible. I'd suggest doing volunteer work in your field to build your resume

I think you even need work permit for voluntary work?! However (Ive heard) there are ways of getting these things if you know the right people.

There is a way to get anything in JA if you know the right people!

There are lot of factory work/hotel work, daycare! Low income housing -newest location moneague ocho rios. Mustard seed communties /salvation army work with the the disadvantage/disable persons. Thank you from Andrea
