Re: I have to move to JA
Thanks for the help, Alex. Last year, my daughters and I spent a week at Seastar in our first trip to Jamaica, and I am convinced that Negril is the most beautiful place in the world. We didn't stay at an AI, but got out and walked all around, and once in a while to get down to the beach, our hotel would call for the margaritaville shuttle, and once in a while would catch a 'route taxi', and would most definitely let them know we were paying 'route' prices before we got in (but would still end up leaving a tip, lol) But we were most definitely on a budget, and matter of fact if we hadn't found a plane fare at only 231.46 from worryfree wouldn't have had the money to go. Haven't found any low prices yet, but it is coming on high season, maybe when it gets to 'off season' past spring break time the flights will go down again.
Because I plan on spending a month there this July, again at a low budget but nice resort on the west end, Thrills, who will be giving me a discount for the monthly stay, only $40 a night with full breakfast included and it has a nice pool and I know where it is at and is within walking distance to places like pirates cave, and this time might check out xtabi by havin a meal there and swim around there for a bit. And of course spending more time by the beach..might see if I can walk down and then hang out at Travellers after orderin a meal there and then hang out swimmin there or keep walkin and see the sunset from the beach instead of the cliffs at least once, then see how Alfreds is at night and take a taxi home. But most of my time will be spend hangin out and gettin to know folks or just floating in those crystal waters. And then doing the same next year, until I can afford to go more than a month at a time, and then when my youngest is graduated, moving to Negril, and renting an apt. in that area somewhere. Not a 'villa' but a regular small apt. And I have no intention on buying a car in Negril, there is no way I would drive in Jamaica, will leave that to the professionals, lol! If after a few years I could get a house to buy, might consider it, but not until then. And I did find out that the VA does cover medical costs in the Caribbean as well as Mexico, so I would be okay there, once I find a Doc who would be willing to see me then wait a bit to get paid....er...is that likely? If not, I could contact the VA and see if I could pay out of pocket and just have them reimburse me. This is something I have thought for a long time, since the first day I woke up in Negril I think, lol, and I love this forum because it is very educational and makes me think of things I might not otherwise. I don't really plan on having any business when I live there though. |

Re: I have to move to JA
Well I went on my second trip to Negril..this one by myself, and was robbed at home the day before I left, so it was a very....educational experience to go on a shoestring budget. I stayed at coral seas gardens then coral seas cliffs and was glad that I had a 'semi ai' plan so I didn't starve, but I found that I could forget about the robbery when I was with Jamaicans and not when with Americans for some reason..I was made to feel very welcome, and like my money didn't matter as much, and was very much commisserated with.
I still have it in my heart and soul to move to Jamaica as soon as my youngest is done with highschool. I wasn't as impressed with the coral seas places as I was with Seastar tho, to be honest. |
