Thanks Damswell.
I didnt REALLY want to rub it in too hard (Still have nightmares and skid marks on my butt from the last "Jamaica Move" encounter).

But I am more convinced today, that its a matter of informing ppl ONCE of the realities of Jamaica, then leaving them alone to figure it out.

Even a "likkle bizness' in Jamaica is not sufficient to provide substantial income for a "comfortable" lifestyle there.

Ppl (and I am not speaking of my Darling. HT now) will always say 'Oh, I dont mind the little inconveniences' or "I know that I would have to adjust". But when you have to put up with it for a couple of weeks or months; its totally different from pulling up your tent pegs and heading to the beautiful island of Land, Wood and Water" to settle down as a home for a loooong time.

Yes, I was born there and I am quite sure that if I were to return i wouldn't find it difficult to start a business and get thing srunning smoothly. But there is more to jamaica than meets the eye; as some of you are well aware.

Unless you "ave a likkle sintin pudung, go and cum as aften as yu kan...but no stay deh!".

But once again..To each, his own.

BUT HT....Being ABSOLUTELY SERIOUSLY about moving to Jamaica;; My Brotherly advise to you (if you did ask) would be to ensure (by any means necessary) that:

1> You have a ROCK SOLID relationship that will last. This takes time. No sense changing your whole life for a chance relationship.

2.> The Brother has a significant investment and a positive cash cow somwhere.

3> You will have the means to obtain gainful employment down there. No disrespect, but while Teachers are highly valued in Jamaica they are lowly compensated.

4>. Make sure that YOU have something to fall back on, in the event that you have to return to the States.

And may the happiness and joy of Salvation be yours, My Sweet.

You need to visit more houses and towns and see how they really live. You need to wake up hungry and try and figure out what you are going to go catch or pick for breakfast cause there is no money for food that day. You need to do all your chores early cause there is not light in the house after dark, no money to pay the light bill right now. You need to bathe by the standpipe. You need to see his son staying home day after day cause there is no money to send him in a taxi or pay for lunch at school this week. You need to see him come home from work dog tired and complaining how he is treated, day after day and then see his small paycheck each week. You need to try and get around to where you are going all the time by taxi and find their schedules are not as convenient as you would like.........that you hate waiting till 6 a.m. for them to start running again so you can finally go home from a night out and they are either full or nowhere to be found when you need one. You need to surive the intense heat, the flies, the mosquitos, tropical storms and hurricanes. You need to have to seek medical care in JA and find privacy is a thing of the past. You need to really look at how much things cost in JA. I could go on and on,you know.

If Jomo hadn't gotten a visa and green card, I would've dropped everything to be with him wherever he was. That being said, I have seen so much of JA........from the ghetto to some of the upper class housing to way up in the hills. I've stayed in the resorts and in yard. How something so beautiful can be so harsh sometimes is beyond me. It is beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. Swell can tell you even better then me as she lived there for years.

Life is hard in JA, Teach. Please think about what your are wanting to do after you have seen more then a few days of JA. And, MAKE SURE he is worth all this planning you are doing.

Did you not read ant of my post......I am not foolish...nor am i poor.....I have a financial plan for when i go and i will not be waking up hungry...I am not some silly love sick lil school girl planning to give up everything to be with my man.....I am a well educated.....rational person...and while i don't need to post all of my financial info on here I will not be waking up hungry and looking for a meal...and btw not everyone in JA lives like that either

Settle down. Babes.
No need to get uptight.
Of course there atre a lot of well-to-do ppl living in Jamaica.
I dont think JG was implying that your situation would be drastic. She (I mean "We") were simply trying to show the "Dark Side" of Jamaica as it is.
Now, obviously you are a wise and noble one; so I am sure that you would take it iunder advisemnt and proceed with the utmost caution.

Now..aboout that financial plan of yours that you mentioned...Whapen? Mi can get a loan?

Re: I have to move to JA

Alex I don't profess to know everything about JA but I am a very well informed person. i have been in a relationship with a manfrom JA for about 4 yrs and I have learned a thing or two about the country. I further know that not everyone lives in a TENT in JA. I also posted that I have a LONG TERM plan for what i am considering.....so before all of you go ganging up on poor stupid HT who is throwing her life away cause she doesn't know.......think again...and actually try reading my posts.....I have been through too much in my life and worked to hard to pull myself up from.....NOTHING....to be that foolish.

Absolutely no need to get hostile, Teach. As Alex said, I am pointing out what you obviously have not had the chance to see in your short trips to JA. Never say never and as reread what Alex just wrote....good advice.

Well maybe i sound a lil uptight...but i don't think yall are reading what i posted...i am not takin the next flight to JA with all my worldly goods.....and I clearly stated that my relationship was far too new for anything dramatic......and I said I was thinking down the road when my son is out of school.......so noe of that seemed to matter as you guys are telling me how i am goin to mire a way in a tent with an empty belly and some crazy evil JA man who is gonna be spendin all my money acuse he doesnt have his own....ok well maybe i dramatixzed it a lil more than you guys but basically thats what your tryna imply. As a matter of Fact i looked at a very nice house in Priory while i was there it was not a tent and it was beautiful and very affordable for ME......as in myself.......my plan does not have to include anyone else should I decise they arent the one.....

Babes, I think that you are getting unnecessarily upset over nothing.

For the record, the only ppl who "live" in temnts in Jamaica are soldiers in the field on training.

I SAID "before one thinks about pulling up tents (pegs) HERE IN THE US".

Sorry for the misunderstanding with my terms.
If Windy Pace was here she would back by statemant that its a common term we (soldiers) use to describe moving from one place ot another.

I'm sure that we all support your endevours, but if you are going to get upset whenever ppl dont say the things you WANTto hear, hon. Then take my advice and keep it to yourself.
There's always gonna be one person who (out of concern, hatred or jealousy) will not say EXACTLY what you wanna hear.

So...Dont sweat it, OK, Hon?

Re: I have to move to JA

Teach, I just want you to really think and be careful. Things work in theory and maybe even on paper........but, in real life, it is a different story.

Not discouraging or making fun of you or anything. Just pointing out some things to make you think. That is all.

Well the tent comment was actually in response to something alex said about pulling up stakes or something......But JG if you read my posts...you will see i am not doing anything on a whim......so no need to worry about me...just go back and realy look at what i said....its all very longterm and well thought out....

Re: I have to move to JA

Hello!! So glad I found this site which is soooo informative. My husband and I just moved here from the Far East (Singapore) where we met and married 1 1/2 years ago. After 8 1/2 years in Singapore he was offered a job to manage the office here for sometime. Its very far away from home but I intend to make the best use of my time and this site really helps!! Hope to meet like-minded friends hopefully for a game of golf (cause we intend to pursue the sport here) or lunch/coffee or just hang out with a nice friendly chat. Thanks ETJ.....I maybe an addict too!! My msn address is anthea_190@hotmail.com

Ok just let me say this...I understand and appreciate that you guys are concerned for me.....I really do...I may sound frustrated but it is because the advice you guys are giving doesnt seem to reflect that you have read what i posted. I feel like you think i am doing something crazy and impulsive without learning what the deal is first. this is not the case and that is the most civilized way i can say my peice. i am not trying to be hostile...just feelin like I am not being heard...sorry for my tone and thanks for all your concerns

You know what I think?
I think that its time for Me, JG and Damswell to stop prtending to be authorities on being or experiencing anything jamaican.

Honestly.

I have only lived there for over a quarter of a century. Whatthe hell do I know about Jamaican life?

Damswell, you have only lived there for a couple of years and married a jamaican.
What the hell do you and Rup know about life down there?

And JG...Well, You didn't even try pulling up your tent and moving there so, whadda you know? should I go on?

The point is ppl, stop being haters. Ppl moving to Jmaica have done their research. They know whats up.

Lets stop casting jamaica in a bad light.

The time we took to do that would be better served doing our own research and making plans to return indefinately.

Its all good.

I'm out.
Have a WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING YOU'ALL
