Re: If you moved to Jamaica

We lived in the hills about 25-30 minutes from St Anns Bay, no running water except whats in the tank! Not piped in like we have here or along the coast!! Country living, as sweet as it gets!

Re: If you moved to Jamaica

If I moved to Jamaica I would definitely miss taking HOT showers the most! And being able to use the bathroom in a room that's connected to the house!! I love everything about Gregory, St. Ann's Bay, and where he's from...but honestly, the whole no hot water/pee in the outhouse thing just bothers me!!! Oh, and I would miss being able to go into a seperate room if I wanted to!!! Gregory's living space is just one room, which after a while, would drive me INSANE!!! I need space!!! Other than that, I believe I'm good!!!

Re: If you moved to Jamaica

I will tell you from experience, I13, he will not miss those things you mentioned above at all. Jomo says he won't be able to stay at his mom's when we go back for just those reason you mentioned above.

And, you made me smile. I remember those exact things too.

Re: If you moved to Jamaica

yes, for his bath, he wont bathe in cold water again and she cooks constantly for him! I have to tell her not to do his laundry i will, she has three little ones still has enough to do herself, but nothing is too much for her 3rd oldest son!

Let me tell you, I just moved back from living in Jamaica for a year with my fiance and you will miss these things and more. I brought my three kids and we had no idea the "culture shock" that we would be in for. We washed our clothes by hand in the bathtub and it took months before my hands calloused over enough to stop bleeding every time. We had no car and so we were limited on how far, where and when we could go anywhere and I spent a small fortune on cab rides. In the winter the cold showers become painful and are not fun at all. No A/C means a fan going 24/7 for most of the year...I recommend a 6000 dollar JA Accutek...they are the best. After all of this I just have one thing to say....it was the best year of my life!! If the kids had enjoyed the schools there we would still be there but I must say I find an American education to be far superior, even after I paid for an expensive seventh day school. I do recommend having a good sum of money to live on as it is very expensive as far as food, utilities, calls home...etc. But it was beautiful every day and waking up to my man every day and working with him to make a life together was so rewarding. Hope my experience helps put things in perspective for others!!

Re: If you moved to Jamaica

I would miss all the summer festivals....especially the art & food ones. I know there are celebrations in and around JA..but they are different and aren't as vast and multi-cultural as I enjoy.

Re: If you moved to Jamaica

Cold showers I have had my experience with them and they are not fun!!!!!!
Its funny how things are. The villa I just stayed out didnt have a washing machine so my clothes were all washed by hand but if I had to do it it would not get done. Sorry cant do it.
As for a bathroom not connected if I live in JA I would have to have some modern living like a connected bathroom. I knwo people live like that but I could not do it.
As for as food being expensive I learned its all relative. If you have lots of fruit trees on your property it helps. That not letting them get the best of you. I learned you have to approach the situation like you know whats going on. I went to the market rather then the supermarket and the prices are different. Got to bargain shop.If you dont then learn.
I learned about taxis and the fares so I hand them the money and get rude with them they if then try to tell me otherwise. But getting a car is better.

Re: If you moved to Jamaica

I seriously wouldnt' miss a whole lot because I don't live an extravagent lifestyle. I'm low maintenance already and don't require a lot to get by. Definitely not a foo-foo.
