Bringing Supplies to Jamaica

Hi Everyone, someone told me that it is appreciated if you bring things down with you that are hard to get there? What should I bring and who should I give to? Thanks for any input!!

Re: Bringing Supplies to Jamaica

ANYTHING!

I just came from JA yesterday. I spent a month doing Dental Health Education in the Blue Mountains. Before I left, I held toothbrush and toothpaste drives and filled 8 suitcases with thousands of donations. The sad part was that I was out of supplies in 2 weeks! The best part is that every school I visited was so excited to get their toothbrush and paste. So, pick a basic item and run with it!!! Good luck!

Denise

Re: Bringing Supplies to Jamaica

Last I was in Jamaica ( Jan. 04') they wanted to know what I had with me and opened everything and asked what I paided for the barbies I had. I heard from other people that depending on what you have with you, they were charging for you to bring it in. I bring tooth brushes and other things for my friends when I get blessed to go. I worry about what I bring with, that they will tax me. ( I will be blessed on the 29th. of Dec. )

Re: Bringing Supplies to Jamaica

Got sum stuff in fi di girls school an fi friends, but Customs wanna charge mi bigtime agin, until mi tell her mi have TRN and NIS numbers. Den she let mi pass. She sey mi shud get a Jamaican passport when mi live der and she sey mi cyan have a US and a Jamaican passport. She also tell mi dat all di items mi bring in fi di house is go a get taxed. Odder peeps tell mi jus go to da line for Nothing to Declare. Cuz yu no hafta declare yur personal items. Everytime mi go thru it a different story. Mi jus go a smile an let dem go thru di dyam luggage. Also got di security wand up an down mi body. An in Miami dey tek away a folding scissors dat made it from Portland, Or, Dalles, Mobay, back Mobay, an Miami decide mi cyaan have di scissors.
Mi bought stuff in Kingston fi di girls home an nex time dat a betta idea den tryin fi bring it through.
