Going to Kingston

Okay, I am going to Kingston the end of April to be with my "friend" who I met in Montego Bay. I have a few questions that I could really use some answers to......

I am traveling from Chicago to Montego Bay (on Air Jamaica) and have to switch planes there to get to Kingston -- does anyone know if I clear customs in MoBay or Kingston?

Staying at the Hilton in Kingston. Any thing to offer?

Cab from airport to hotel -- how much should it cost? Can I give them american money <I know, stupid question>?

What should I look forward to doing in Kingston. This is going to be my first trip to Jamaica NOT being a tourist and staying at a resort.

Anything anyone can offer would be helpful. Thanks!

hey minifay! i'm glad you're going to kingston, you will definitely get some true roots n culture while there! i actually like kingston so much purely for that fact. i dont know anything about customs or the cab....but i have some ideas on things to do.

number1 - go to the bob marley museum. 56 hope road. its his old house, has some reeeally cool stuff and pictures - its just really neat esp if you love bob. its like 10$ american. i loved it.

number2- try to get your friend to take you to a football (soccer) game. i also did this and it was awesome. lots of streamline jamaican men, and its an awesome time. they have a bunch of leagues and stuff, i saw one fromthe wray and nephew premeir league, you can get more info on schedules at www.golocaljamaica.com/premierleague/

number3 - go out dancing! check out Asylum or the quad in new kingston

number 4 - go to the kingston craft market. its downtown. you also can think about checking out the national art gallery while down there...they are within walking distance of one another.

thats all i have for now... does your friend have a car??? that will help alot.
HAVEFUN!!! i'm so jealous..i want to go back to kingston so bad!!!

Re: Going to Kingston

Hey Minfay! I've never been to kingston but can tell you that you will definitely go through customs in MoBay. You have to go through customs as soon as you land in the country...even if it isn't your final destination. Unless things have changed...I would expect to go through customs in Mobay...Stupid law...but I guess thats how it has to be!

Have a great trip! I'm jealous too!
