Jamaican Movies
How about the YARD movies??
I see all these HOLLYWOOD movies up there, so mi haffi bring in di YAD movie dem. Mi know sey all of dem not brand new but a Jamaican site dis yo...
What's your favourite Jamaican movie??
I can't decide, but I'll tell you which ones I liked: Shottaz (obvious BIG UP SPRAGGA & Kumani Marley!), Rude Boyz (this movie was kind of CILSHE but BEENIE & NINJA in a di same filck, dat is worth it.), Dancehall Queen (one of di legendary YARD films for real), Third World Cop (BIG UP Scare Dem crew yeah yeah!!). I can't remeber the name of the comedy I liked, but it had "WEDDING" in the title...help me out if you remeber di name a it!
Anyway, holla back y'all call out your favourite YARD movies.
Smile Orange is the best comedy of all time, you'll laugh till you wet up yuh self.
Dancehall Queen was well done, outstanding performances by our Jamaican actors and actresses also the story line connected to reality, it showed a part of Jamaica that was good - our music and dance instead of crime and drugs.
Third World Cop was a diffrent twist however the acting wasn't as polished but it was well worth my time. I am happy that both these movies made the mainstream and hope they will continue to make more and improved Jamaican flicks.

KC, mi nah need no comedy fi make me wet...
A joke t'ing dat...
I don't really think the acting is that great in Dancehall queen either though, would you really rate that?? I mean the acting was OK, but what Danchall Queen did was shed some light on some situations that people a foreign nuh really know to all dat, it showed them certin t'ings wha gwan in corrupt environments. So the story pulled you in not the acting! In my opinion anyway.
You didn't comment on SHOTTAZ, my Jamaican friends didn't like that movie too much but all my Canadian Jamaican friends love it... that's interesting to me. I like it MAD MAX is a decent actor (mi nah know him real name) and the guy who played LENNOX in BELLY was also in it he did a good job of his character! It could have been better without WYCLEF, his part was unnecessary, anyone could have done it, but he got it because he partially funded the movie, and I think he was friends with Kumani or Spragga B4.
Anyway, did you happen to know the name of that comedy show I mentioned before, something 'bout WEDDING it's a comedy. I'll see Smile Orange cuz you said so.... what others would you recommend from any genre, it nuh really matter.

Reason: spelling issue
Obeah Wedding is good too but it's more theatre-like and put on video, but its decent. i made particular mention to Dancehall Queen because it was the first Jamaican produced movie released at selected theatres worldwide. It has set the trend for other local productions to acclaim such great heights. And been the first there must be alot of room for improvement as you soo mentioned.
Smile Oranage was filmed in the 70's so look out for the afros and deep Jamaican patwa. Fun though! Filmed during the time when tourism was becoming more developed in Montego Bay. Well worth it
