I know I joined this thread late... but is there only one version of Top Shottas out there--the bootleg one with the missing scenes? I checked round an saw somewhere dat it was never officially released. My copy is obviously pirate an crap quality.
Me tink seh dis movie great! I love Louis Rankin alangside Spragga and Kymani... and I even haffi somewhat rate Wyclef fi playin di comedy relief.
Smile Orange is the best comedy of all time, you'll laugh till you wet up yuh self.
Dancehall Queen was well done, outstanding performances by our Jamaican actors and actresses also the story line connected to reality, it showed a part of Jamaica that was good - our music and dance instead of crime and drugs.
Third World Cop was a diffrent twist however the acting wasn't as polished but it was well worth my time. I am happy that both these movies made the mainstream and hope they will continue to make more and improved Jamaican flicks.
I agree kc4u....Smile Orange is one of the best yard comedies yet! I also liked the Oliver Samuel's Movie "Eve" in which he'd just returned from living in England and ah bare twang im a twang....it's hilarious!
I also think Dancehall Queen was well done and Third World Cop.
The "Harder They Come" is a Jamaican classic....big up to Jimmy Cliff!

Yeah, same people, but ah noh nutten....ah yawd yuh ah deal wid y'noh...
When I watched "THIRD WORLD COP" I put on the subtitles for English because I couldn't understand too much the dialect and my boyfriend said, "Ya nuh easy gurl! Yuh crazy Puerto Rican". I loved the side kick Cop, "WE NEED BAC UP, BAC UP!!!"
The quote in Dancehall Queen after Priest murders Marcia's friend is: "Walk and leave....talk and bumba claat dead."
While I love all of the movies mentioned, Dancehall Queen is close to my heart --- as it is a woman's movie. I've watched that movie so many times, and find Audrey Reid's acting amazing. I've always wished for a sequel. I also love the appearance of Carl Bradshaw as that silly cop: "Come here likkle yout! Yu see Junior? Yu nah see Junior?" But after seeing him in Smile Orange, he will forever live on as Ringo Smith! "Yu not only have to look better than that, but yu have to smell better than that. Yu ever hear of a ting called deodorant?" Paging Mr. Ringo Smith. Report to the manager's office immediately!
I have plenty of Jamaican dvds at my house for some reason I have decided to buy a couple one day and couldn't stop buying. "Passa Passa" is a great movies I laughed till me almost piss me self. "Its A Dancehall ting" was a good movie too. "Higglers" is an ok movie too. I also bought "Scrogge" or whatever da name it stupid u si. I thought everthing Oliver was in would be good but that dey movie no make it. "Dancehall Queen" was a nice movie also it really showed how every everyday life in Jamaica can be. "Betrayed" also has the lady that is in "Dancehall queen". That movie shows how some gal be acting stupid sometimes. Dat movie it for older people though cause di things dem sey in a it no fi likkle pickney. "Dubby in the house" is an ok play I didnt really think it was all that. From 1-10 it was a 5 probably. Every movie that I have seen wit Charles Tomlin or the other guy thats in "Its a Dancehall Ting" and "Passa Passa" last name Rowe like my mother is funny. Dem two is something else. I need to find a place where they sell "Lime Tree Lane" cause that dey was the show that make u run home to catch.

Since getting the DVD I never updated this thread.... you are right... big movie for sure. I like the Hotel Manager's wife...lol scandalous... funny stuff.
The Harder They Come is good stuff too... can't get anough of Jimmy as IVAN I think the story was good showing the adversity a person who comes from country, may face being new to a city and how they can fall into things they don't want to easily.
The Lunatic now... jah know that guy play a bad man better...lol but did an excellent job in that roll.
anybody know whatever happen to the movie called fire with paul campbell, now he's one underated jamaican actor that needs more exposure in hollywood. tell me if you don't agree.
The best Jamaican movie ever made was none other than "Harder dem come".
Second to that was "Country man"
Best Comedy was "Smile Orange".
Best one portraying a female was "Body Move"
Audrey Reid out does herself everytime as a serious actress and comedy...so DanceHall queen was great.
Shottaz shows just how these guys live their lives to the letter..and i am glad Kimani did not play the role that spragga played.
Belly not of all Jamaican formatt was good...BIG UP TO THE FEMALE ASSASIN.NIKETA...
Any comedy with Jukyjam and Girly has got to be good
Thumbs down to those chessy ones...Rude boy and such....heard Kartel made one that was not even close to being a movie....
