Thumbs up Hotel Rwanda

I realise this movie came out in 2004 but I have never seen it before tonite and mek mi tell yu sumthin.. I have NEVER been as impressed with any other movie EVER!!!! This movie had me crying straight thru AND made me realise how fortunate we all are.. included likkle 'ole complaining GG....

If you havent seen it, I can highly recommend it... makes you think.. it is sooo compasionate... I loved it..

I remember being about 11 years old when the war in Rwanda was going on.. saw it on the news (lived in Holland at that time) But never ever in my wildest dreams would I have thought those things as shown in the movie were taking place.. How little respect there really is for humanity.. its a disgrace really!!!!!

Quote:
[Ten years ago, as the country of Rwanda descended into madness, one man made a promise to protect the family he loved--and ended up finding the courage to save over 1200 people. Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager in Rwanda, secretly used his position and intelligence to shelter over a thousand refugees during the genocide crisis. While the rest of the world closed its eyes, Paul opened his heart to prove that the human spirit can make us stronger than we could ever imagine
A great story... that shouldnt go untold... I am telling Nigel about Paul when he goes to sleep tomorrow

Re: Hotel Rwanda

I have friend from Rwanda who I met in the Caribbean.
Imagine, war breaks out in your country, you write home to find out about your family. After months and months of no reply you finally get a reply from a friend, of a friend, of a friend of your parents to say...your second aunt is alive. Another distant uncle is alive. A few other distant family members have been hurt but are believed to be alive in X country.

The writer avoids to mention the people who have died, they are too many...i.e his entire family is dead.

Imagine holding a dream that you will soon return home to be with family only for your country to go into war and all your family die in the process. Life can throw curve balls at you. I'm so proud of my friend. He is small in size but big in heart.

GG Go rent a movie called "God grew Tired of us. The story of the lost boys of the sudan"..Its a documentary about the Genocide that is taking place in Sudan and it follows the exodus of 27,000 males from the war torn country and what happens to some of them.....I cried the ugly cry after watching this. Re: Hotel Rwanda

I have had the pleasure of knowing a couple of these guys who were fighting in Sudan. The UN had to seek countries to adopt them. Some went to Canada but I think most went to Switzerland (if I remember correctly).

You would give one guy a T-shirt and a week later another Sudanese 6 hour drive away would be wearing the same shirt so it looked as if they actually a couple T-shirts like others. Despite being trained for combat from a very early age they were quite peaceful. (Very tall and make every other black person look brown). Real ebony......quite a beautiful sight.

Sudan is host to many young men being trained for combat and other activities. Many young people are being used as weapons of war.

Re: Hotel Rwanda

The documentary follows some of the men who were relocated to the US and it is unbeleivable the bond these guys have and how filled with positive vibes and hope they are. So close to God...its amazing what the human spirit can endure.

i rented this last year and i too was in tears! "God grew tired of us" is such a good movie. as much as i love america, it made me realize how much we're missing out on a sense of community here.
