I INTENTIONALLY omitted the fact that I too, DO in fact enjoy reading subtitles.
As a matter of fact, for me, it is more of a (medical) necessity than a personal preference.
But the logic of my reasoning is that it is rediculous for an English speaking movie production to produce a movie ONLY in a foreign language.

The foreign language should be a LANGUAGE option on the DVD.

Like French songs, even if you dont understand the language it sounds very good...But it would be kinda rediculous (IMO) to collect a ton of french CDs if you didnt understand a single word of teh language...Dont you think?

And thats exactly my point..
The Chinese/Hong Kong movie industry did that over 30 years ago in the high days of martial art films....It was called "dubbing".

Why would you want to release an English-produced film to an English audience in a language that is not understood by 100% of the viewers?

Are we assuming that the audience is 100% literate?
Is it suppose to be a crash-course in reading?

Rediculous!

Well Of course you know the decision is made based on an artisitic integrity thing.......they are trying to make the movie a more authentic experience, for all of the senses......and in the age main stream sucessful movies with subtitles like Crouching Tiger, The Passion....etc......this is now seen a reasonable option for artisitic expression, because it has been proven sucessful....its Hollywood Alex.....you know how pretentious they can be.....

Heck... I don't even know wah foreign language it was...DWL

But I still dissagree with you on this particular movie
It was done on purpose..an artist move like Teach mentions..and done rather well. This movie would definately NOT have the same effect if it was in English.. IMHO...it woulda stunk!!
