Mystic River

I just watched Mystic River last night and I'm REALLY lookin for someone who's seen it. I pretty much liked it all the way through cause the it remains a mystery the whole way through til pretty much the very end. Not many movies can keep you guessing the whole way through.

But what I wanna know is anyone's opinion on the actual ending. I was pretty disappointed with the events at the end of the movie. It really left me hangin. Has anyone else seen it?

Re: Mystic River

JamCan, just found this thread when I was searching for something to read.

You didn't like the ending? Not a surprise for me. I read the book first. Pretty darn close to the book too. Not many movies actually do that.

Sean Penn is amazing.

Maybe in the eyes of the law. But, their lives were changed forever.

Great movie but sad how the killed the wrong guy when he didn't even kill his friend's daughter. Man their lives were messed up.

Re: Mystic River

Anyone see "The House of Sand and Fog". Another sad movie where no one wins.

Re: Mystic River

That's funny.... this is the first I've seen this thread--and we watched Mystic River last week--then House of Sand And Fog the very next night! What a coincidence.

Mystic River: I liked this movie. It truly is sad at the end, but the acting was great, the filming was terrific--some great camera work and a good score to support it. I think they captured the "old neighbourhood" beautifully. Sean Penn sure outdid himself in this movie. Even down to the portraying the repressed anguish and pain suffered by a man who just found out that he killed a friend for nothing. Someone said he got off "scott free" but not really--not if you look into his eyes at the end of the movie. What a powerful piece of acting that was, imho.

House of Sand and Fog: I liked this one too. Both the main characters had an equal amount of justification as well as flaw--so you couldn't really root for one or another. I thought Ben Kingsley was terrific (as usual) and it was made even more legit by having an Iranian actress playing his wife. I don't really like Jennifer Connely much, but in this one she did a decent job.

Re: Mystic River

Do you read, U? If so, both of those books are even better then the movies and are well worth the read, even after having seen the movies.

Re: Mystic River

Actually...I can't read. I've been blind from birth and I have a voice activated input device for my computer keyboard. But thanks anyway.

Re: Mystic River

Can I ask how you do all those cool graphics? I am kind of computer illiterate and pretty much muddle my way through most things. Learning Quark at work now and it is stumping me. Wish I could do all those cool things you do to pictures.

Re: Mystic River

Aha...I've used Photoshop for about 12 years... mostly for business, so I've gotten pretty quick at it. Quark is good, although I've always used Pagemaker (same sort of thing) because I prefer the interface.
