This is part of a joke with some truth to it. The Jamaicans I know would never climb a tall mountain, nor bungee jump. They also are scared by horror movies. I was talking about my skiing career and my BF said, "Skiing is a white man's sport". Why so?? I understand growing up in a tropical climate, skiing would be the last sport you'd take up. But he included American Blacks in his comment. Come to think of it I rarely see a Black at a ski area. I suppose if your parents never had an interest you may not, so carried on.
What gives with the fear of mountains, heights, water, horror movies etc.? Now I KNOW many whites afraid of the same things, but I always hear about it with reference to Blacks.
My boyfriend jokingly (sad to me) said "We came over on water and will never return to it!" By the way he swims, though not too well and speaks of sailing.
